Output and voltage test of 5000K and 3000K Nichia Optisolis leds

djozz, do you think a typical OP reflector is forgiving enough to produce a good beam off a single Optisolis LED without any further messing with a lens? The options that I have in mind are aleph LE with either the triple Optisolis board I just gor from Clemence for a med power mule only, or with a single Optisolis board good for both a low power mule and, say, a Haiku.

I do not think that a single led in an OP reflector will produce a good beam. And especially from a flashlight that is made for a good tint, you want the beam to be smooth as well.

I tried to EDC the Optisolis S2+ for a few days and my conclusion is that it is not good for that, and everyday light source needs to be a bit throwier than this. But (apart from truly appreciate art works and nature) it is great to check which of my socks match (all my socks are dark, from blue to brown to several tints of black).

Here they are! Will test asap.

We did a blend board with 3,4 and 5k Optisolis and managed to get 99.4 CRI, very nice leds, we used our 10mm Square MCPCB

Is the footprint for this emitter the same as some pre-exsisting led?

The footprint as far as I know is pretty standard for 3030 midpower leds. But those are never before used in flashlights so for us it is very uncommon. (in the picture are for example Osram Duris leds).

The footprint is the standard Nichia 757 or 3030 led footprint that is industry standard

By the way, may be interesting to look for “Laird” thermal pads, to electrically insulate the LED boards from the pill / shelf.
Not cheap, but probably one of the best pads.
Various thicknesses available, from 0.125 to 2 mm.

I bet Clemence knows what the best brand thermal pads are though…

I will include some if you’re interested. It’s very soft and easily torn. I bet you plan to insulate an XML copper board for those Optisolis, right? The easier way is to just use whatever thermal paste you have with several points of super thin support. It’s to keep the MCPCB from tilting and breaking the paste (and touched the base). In my case I use SiC powder or very thin sellotape (only at four outer points and the center).

As I remember, if you decide to use them, Virence boards are non-DTP (but with extreme thin dielectric layer, so performance is as a DTP board) so no electrical insulation of the boards are needed.

I guess Jerommel is trying to solder it on an XML board like you did.

I didn’t know you also have Quad 3030 boards in your store, Clemence.
I browsed it recently for Quad E21 boards, but i must have missed them.

As for the thermal pad you mention, i already have some 0.2mm “Laird” ones.
Recently ordered some 0.125 mm ones too.

Off topic here, but basically your new LED boards are anodized aluminium with copper traces on top, right?
