What did you mod today?

:+1: for the pics! That looks like a major job, and a nice house. No wonder the hobby had to be left alone for a while.

He didn’t like heights, so on his house I actually did have to put the sky beams in. I was the only one willing to go up that high to guide the core load-bearing parts into place. They originally planned to build a log cabin to retire in, but I guess things looked smaller on paper and it turned into more of a log mansion. First world problems.

In any case, good luck with the construction, Zozz. May your new roof be wasp-free.

Don’t know about y’all, but I think his family should work through the night and let Zozz furnish the lighting.

I received some 90 CRI Samsung LH351Ds from AEDe and decided to swap out the 219C in my Tiara for testing. Aside from feeling a little dirty about de-Nichiaing a light, it seems to be a success. With the same optic, the LH351D has a significantly higher output. This is partially due to the bezel not being pressed in, as well as the emitter dome sitting inside the optic aperture better. The output is even higher with a Yajiamei optic.

The LH351D is physically much more similar to an XP-L than a 219C is, which means it behaves a little better as a drop-in replacement, especially with TIR optics. For the most part the light quality subjectively seems similar, and I didn’t notice a huge amount of green shift at lower levels.

Decribed how a vacant C8 host was set-up to be a UV thrower , but left out the beamshot(s). Because White Walls Won’t Work With UV. Then I remembered that djozz showed us we can use the illumination of the UV light on white paper. Of course I did not have a large enough piece of white paper. But I had a piece of shelf paper that was white enough to do the trick.

On the left you see the hotspot of the C8 at 1.8m (6ft). On the right you see the result of the latest model UV Convoy S2+ at 1.8m.

@Bob, how is the light output compared to the stock XPL?

Would like to know.

I don’t have access to a stock XP-L Tiara right now, but from past measurements, with the best case Yajiamei optic, the LH351D output is about the same (~870 lumens). Adding the bezel and glass lowers output something like 5-10%, so it will end up somewhat lower than stock. Don’t take any of these numbers as absolute since they come from a calibrated shoebox and ceilingbounce, but they should be reasonably comparable in relative terms. The LH351D is a nice option to have for this kind of mod.

Ahhh, so that means the LH351D R9070 is about as efficient as an XPL R7000.

Very nice indeed. I wish for them to come so I can finally use them in my BLF Q8 like djozz, and send some 351Ds/Bs to a special member.

Eventually received my Seoul Viosys emitters so some DQG UV mini goodness today :)

What did you do? That doesn’t even look real. If I zoom in a bit it looks better, but the texture at both ends seems like something which shouldn’t actually exist.

I’m not sure what you mean?

Just saying your work is so unreal it’s out of this world.

Don’t worry, it’s a good thing.

Is there a textured wall or coarse paper that is reflecting in the lens? This may be what she is seeing…

Oh this, yeah that’s a textured white mat, the only glowy thing I had to hand for a picture.
I can see how that would be confusing now

Not technically a mod but built my first S2 today:

Convoy S2
Nichia 219C
Smooth reflector
DrJones H17Fx Driver
Samsung 30Q 18650
Tail spring bypass

Happy to have this thing fire up on my first try. There’s a few small tweaks I still want to make but happy with my first day progress. I’ll save the pics since everyone here’s seen a S2 and my soldering skills are HORRENDOUS.

Sounds like a nice mod e1000. As for the soldering a hot iron and good flux makes a big difference.

Isn’t that too much current for 219c?

djozz test here on the 219C.

Yeah, due to the low Vf, there is a high potential for FET-based drivers to turn single 219c emitters into smoke when used with a high-amp cell. It might be a good idea to use a weaker cell there, or use thin wires to feed the emitters, as well as un-bypassing the spring(s).

An old NCR18650A would probably be safe, if you can find one.

Absolutely! HA! On full turbo (FET) the LED goes blue-ish. I have my modes set fairly safe, with the high being 2100mA and I avoid full on turbo.
