New Convoy C8+ Desert Tan

It appears to be using the same driver as the clear version (8×7135) so it would be about the same lumens.

ok thanks for answer no need to buy this then even tho host looks nice.

I like my clear C8 and my convoy stuff, but this one is not a looker for me. The extra cooling fins on the head and tailcap, knurling that looks like it will give your skin a scraping, not for me

Seems kinda finny. More fins cut into the head, grooves into tail, etc.

Unno, I like the color, but it looks too “busy”, kinda like a shrunk L6.

I’d be tempted, but the rest of my C8 army would probably dogpile on it and kill it. Or at least it’d get D’Onofrioed with socks full of soap.

Has the process of buying from Simon been simplified recently? I wouldn’t mind getting one, but buying from Simon is a pain in the butt.

Yeah, same here. Too “busy”…

Dunno why it’d need extra cooling by the tail, either.

Let’s be honest, most fins on these lights are in the wrong place to do their job effectively anyway.
The tail looks like 3 nuts screwed together and yet I like it because it is different.
First real rework of a C8 in a long time, really dig the diamond cuts and the color.
Will wait for BG or GB to get them before buying probably.
Cut way back on purchases lately, but this one will be a must.

Lightbringer, you know you will eventually buy this flashlight.
Maybe not this week, but withing the next 3 months.
I got a dollar on it.

Later,
Keith

Nah, still haven’t gotten an S9, nor am I planning to. Didn’t thrill me.

I got enough C8s and S2+es (and S3s, S5s, S2s, etc.) to last me a looooong time.

I’m at the point where unless a new light has something which just grabs me, I’m gonna pass.

I’d like to get one, but I’ve been spending too much money on this hobby lately. I’ll definitely get one in the future.

Had my interest, but …

Hank’s page showed this UI has no memory.

Allows choice to turn on in next mode, or turn on in first mode.
IMO, this is the equivalent of no memory.
Memory would allow you to turn on the flashlight in the last mode you used.

Per this JDub74’s post it has Biscotti UI, which means it certainly does have memory.

As Hank posted here:
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Desert-tan-Convoy-C8-with-XPL-HI-LED-copper-DTP-board-and-ar-coated-inside-new/330416_32872307625.html

you can see at the beginning of his “Mode Instruction” chart the options are either turn on in next mode, or turn on in first mode.

Is his chart wrong? I hope so.

You’re both right…You can turn memory on or off ! (user programmable) …

Immediately after a series of short taps to enter config (10+) click during second “buzz” - turn mode memory ON or OFF

maybe merge threads?

hm can u explain further? from what i read people have no issues buy from him directly ?

The C8 flashlights are an exception to the rule. Almost all Chinese flashlights go from good tp worse.. But the C8 flashlights are the opposite. It started with some cheap quality C8's in the past with the famous Kaidomain C8 for $16... But they were (to my understanding) all low quality compared to the Convoy and Astrolux C8s these days.. There had been a few other higher quality ones, but to my kbowledge the first C8's were of low quality....

Well, since this new C8 will start out as high-quality since Simon will produce it….better buy it now before the others make poor copies. :smiling_imp:

I reviewed the C8+ last night, I aimed it at some trees 50m away thinking that’ll be it for real world use, I was shocked to notice part of the hotspot was lighting up a tree nearly as brightly 50 metres past it. It spanked all my EDC throwers but fell short of the Italia Cometa’s throw.

I’m no clicky fan but I don’t like the default UI. It’s slow to get to the highest mode and it’s easy to skip past it to strobe. Then you have to scroll through several modes again to get to high. Mode memory is disabled out of the box which suits me though, a light starting in moonlight is the next best thing to a lock-out.

Since it’s got biscotti UI, you should be able to reprogram it to hide blinky modes altogether.

I will, Tbh I wouldn’t mind them being there as a default if there was a hold for instant turbo feature.
