*REVIEW THORFIRE VG15S*

Review sample was sent by Thorfire via Amazon to me here in the Philippines.

So I recently acquired this VG15s in the mail which was honestly very fast given that I am based here in the Philippines, the package arrived in just 5 days of ordering!

First thoughts on the light are:

First the packaging, it is very simple yet robust, no fuss, it kept the light secured through transport. Package includes the light itself which is wrapped in foam, user manual in English, lanyard which is about 26cm(10 inches) which is pretty long for the size of the flashlight in my opinon, and 2 spare o-rings.

Packaging:

Next,I used an MXJO 20a 3000mah 3.7v hi-drain IMR 18650 cell, and now to the light itself, it utilizes a CREE XML2 LED, which delivers a whopping 1070 lumens output on turbo and about 650 feet(200m) of beam distance. It has an orange peel reflector for a good flood but still a decent range. I was really impressed with the power of this compact light at only 4.8 inches long and 2.7 oz light. It has a neutral white to cool white tint, not bad at all. It has a a good quality clip, aesthetics are great, good anodization with some nice knurling on the body and tail cap to provide a good grip nice grip, well designed and it looks good with a stainless steel bezel, a tail clicky which is quite soft and shallow so there is quite a learning curve on the changing modes operation. It's threads came nicely squared and lubed, a sturdy and smooth chrom finish pocket clip, and a real nice tight fit of the parts.

It is further impressive with the 5 modes you can access via half-clicking the switch when on, it has which is true firefly mode that gives out 0.5 lumens, low at 50 lumens, mid at 200 lumens, high at 600 lumens, and turbo at 1070 lumens, and also it has strobe by double half-clicking the switch. However there is a very slight delay upon changing modes, it very well compensates on the very nice range of modes it has. It has a 3 minute step down timer on turbo which is very impressive because this light gets quite hot so this is a really awesome feature to have.

Overall, a well designed, little edc light that packs a punch. A spectacular firefly mode, a couple of intermediary modes, then a powerful turbo. I would highly recommend this light for a general edc light. I am extremely happy with it and must say it has an excellent value for money. Another great light by Thorfire!

Below are some pictures of the light and some beam shots. (Please pardon me as I am no professional photographer, I just used a Sony ixus on hi ISO settings).

Nice!

Nice review and some great photos.

I have the VG15S but ordered the light along with the battery and charger.

I ordered the package to see how it would be to use more of these for gifts to people who had no flashlights at all and would need a battery and charger.

Worked out great, nice looking light that anyone would like to own.
Battery is Protected which is a plus.

Very happy with this light package and will be ordering more.
Shipping was from Amazon so you can have this light in your hands in a couple of days, always a big plus.

Thank you. The light that was sent to me by Thorfire didn’t include the battery and charger package, so I just used what I had instead. This package was fulfilled to me by Amazon as well. 5 days for Int’l shipping with no problems on the actual packaging isn’t bad at all

decent light
would like levels in between .5 and 50 though
and no one seems to care that 127mm is too big for normal pockets
wle

I carry this light in my pocket all the time, fits perfect in jeans.
I’m a Electrician by Trade so I need a light in my pocket all the time, because when the lights go on it’s time for me to leave….

Awesome review! Detailed and well presented

I’ve heard a report that Thorfire have changed the strobe on the VG15S from single frequency (10Hz) to two/alternating frequency strobe. This was damage sales from light painting photographers. Can anyone who has a recent VG15S confirm this change?

Define recent? Got one off Amazon AU early August, single strobe.

One thing to add, if you want to mount on cap visor the clip only mounts one way so reverse the body.

VG15S was one of my 1st three real lights when I got the torch bug, after buying ThorFire C8s, along with ThorFire TG06S. I’m no longer blown away by the output but as per Stittville Ed above, with a protected battery, it’s become my loaner to try and infect friends and neighbours with the lumen bug

I’ve heard the report of someone who has just received one. There may be new and old stock, but I’ve yet to get a second confirmation.
