Huh, how does that driver work?
Is it a linear regulator or something?

The MOSFET part on that driver shows a 7520 inscription, found AON7520 and AM7520 related datasheets. A popular PIC12F683, by the way.
Cheers ^:)
Spec sheets look good. Standard 70 CRI looks like it might best the XP-G3 by 10% (according to flux binning at highest bins). Slightly narrower beam. Nearly identical pad footprint. This could be an interesting contender.
Did not look at the prints… does it have a neutral thermal pad?
Always nice to see new LEDs showing up.
So, who’s gonna test them?
Yup, and a decent size. Like I mentioned, the footprint is nearly identical to the XP-G3. Technically, it’s offered in two footprints: A120 (main size) and B120 (smaller pads). Click for larger images.
Luminus SST-20-W A120 footprint:
Edit: I see that the dome on the SST-20 is smaller than the XP-G3: radius 1.3mm vs 1.53mm, respectively. Which makes me wonder if it has a small die? Also, it looks like it has a similar structure as the SST-40 (that is, not a flip chip design) which is reasonably good news for dedoming prospects. Now to find a vendor for these…
I got a good feeling about this new sst-20, simply going off of the success of sst-40 (performance, not cri) This might be our next holly grail!!!
And so has anyone thought of one of these in a GT or it’s equivalent?
Data sheet indicates up to around 4A for some 1200 lumens or better, that’s feasible to stuff under a massive reflector. Worth looking into…
I’ve searched around the usual vendors and haven’t located any. If someone finds some, please chime in!
Pushing the new SST-20 to 9A to replace this one? :smiling_imp:
@gchart:
A small die size would be nice, I still have a quad Maglite with Seoul P4 LED’s :person_facepalming: who is waiting for small die LED’s.
The high-cri version ist certainly interesting!

I have a feeling we have a new throw king (when dedomed) …
Hardly, it should generate ~1700-1800lm (dedomed) to match black flat, and that requires 8-9Amps which this LED would never achieve.
Black flat is kind of a weird led to work with , so even if performance is 15-20% better than xp-g2 it will be awesome
Osram LE UW Q8WP is awesome from my point of view (same performance as OBF but double lumens) but costs 10+$ per led , compared to the 1$ of sst-20 ( link )
The black flat successor KW CSLNM1.TG will not have any of the problems the black flat does, such as non-neutral thermal pad and cut out corner.
It’s already in “full production”.
The CSLNM1?
Too bad that the two supplier offers only the SST-20 6500k version, which is for a me a litle too cold.
Cold, yes. Colder than I usually prefer. But at least if it’s like the SST-40 (as is expected), then it should be a pure white, not blue or purple. I put a few dedomed SST-40’s in Convoy L2’s and actually don’t mind the tint for a thrower.
I pulled the trigger on the Aliexpress listing last week. I can’t wait to see how they perform sliced / dedomed - should be good. Not that I really needed 10 of them :person_facepalming: but at less than $1 each, oh well
