I believe they settled on the 21700 for a size limit due to being able to keep it cool. A diameter larger than this makes it harder for the water based cooling system to reach the core of the battery.
I would really love it if one of the big four battery companies actually made a 26650. Then we would have some real performance. LOL
There were several reasons they decided 21700 was the best compromise for the chemistry and application.
Yes it would be nice if there was one of the big companies doing 26650, but with the latest 5800/6000mAh cells I don’t really think we have too much to complain about. If they can push it to 8-9-10Ah and maintain the high current capacity we would be in heaven and I think some electric vehicles like e-bikes, scooters, and unicycles would get very interested. Maybe even some hybrid cars. For flashlights… I can live quite happy with where they are.
I’m just enjoying what we have, people who didn’t grow up lugging Gell battery packs around or dealing with NiCADs and such thing, maybe just can’t appreciate the advancements that have been made in their life time. The cat ran out of 9-lives, and the Energizer bunny died long ago, but some companies try to keep him alive in our memories because it helps them.
Judging by pics - definitely not Carclo, likely the one in the other Mankers.
XHP35 HI is much more efficient than XP-L HI. Especially at high currents. I expect such mod to turn this light from a good flooder to a great flooder (while it remains OK thrower at the same time).
Okay, so I’m assuming Vinh does not want to change the mcpcb or optics so hes just going to swap emitters and drivers.
I assumed he would swap more parts to get a really big output. He’s usually pretty extreme like that. He seems to be using a conservative approach here.
I’m a big fan of Manker TIR.
4 LEDs in a 22 mm diameter is a lot. But more importantly - it can actually reasonably collimate them, competing with 20% larger Carclo. If I’m not mistaken, Manker actually wins that competition.
I’m a big fan of XHP35 HI.
Lots of output in a tiny space. And good efficiency. And good tints. And good throw as well. I do have some gripes, I believe it could be significantly improved, but it is great as it is already.
I find the combination of both awesome.
Actually the first time I saw them together was in a mock-up of Vinh’s BLF GT. Which had more than 2 TIRs. I fell in love immediately….not in that GT, but in the TIR+LED set.
It would be hard to fit anything more powerful in that space, regardless of how extreme you are. Unless one was to make a mule.
So yes, it may not be a hard mod (depending on the driver). But I believe it will be a well-working one.
