Yes as always he’s got a good deal on the GT but at $250 it’s not something I can afford right now….need a couple of new fishing reels and some braid so yeah, anyone who’s got the GT and absolutely hates it, let me know! hahhahhaha, not likely
All right. I’m in a big pickle right now and need help from you guys. DHL showed at my door with nothing more than an envelope. Inside was instructions because my GT is stuck at customs. They gave me 10 days to present proof of purchase, a receipt or even my credit card statement because they are doubting the declared value of 30$. And because I live in a shi*hole of a country they will tax me 60% of the declared value plus some handling fees. I ordered the full deal… thats close to 270$. And if you are wondering that’s 162$ of TAXES. Now, I have already sent an email to neal about it asking if he could do something for me. Like perhaps making a receipt of 30$ or whatever. Another idea I gave him is to simply let DHL return my GT to him and maybe he could resend it using Registered Mail. In that case I would of course pay whatever extra extra fees to resend it. I’m just afraid that he won’t understand what I’m asking, since his english is not so good, or that he takes so long to answer me that I won’t have time to do anything. I don’t really know what to do. I had never used DHL before and really had no idea they were so nick picking about these stuff. Can anyone help me? Thank you.
I got my GT on may 22nd, I was excited to get it and share my thoughts.
I want to start off by saying that I have been really invested in this groupbuy, keeping up with messages, tests and videos every day. It has been really inspiring to see the efforts of everyone involved.
As I got the light the size and quality did impress me. Sadly the performance did not, as I quickly tried it out. After this I did some exstensive testing at different locations. The throwiest light I own is my TK75VN Killer Throw, rated at 340 kcd. This should not be stiff competition to the BLF GT at 1-1,3 mcd. The reality with my light however, is that it barely outthrows my TK75. I can only tell the difference by using them side by side while aiming at targets. The reach on the GT looks to be about 50 meters more. I really hope there is something wrong with my light, because if this light is up to spec I might as well quit throwers altogether…
Maybe someone here has any idea? I’ve thought about getting a light meter but those take weeks to arrive from China.
It’s the old TK75. Dedomed xml’s, about 3400 LED lumen if I recall correctly. So roughly 1000 lumen more than the GT. Of course the hotspot on the TK75 is much larger. The cells I use are the Samsung 35E’s, ordered with the light. I have a Gyrfalcon All-88 charger so the cells are definitely fully charged. I removed the stickers and residue on the cells so that can’t be it either.
Don’t worry. I am not doing anything without Neal’s approval. In fact he already answered me and gave me an invoice with Lumintop’s logo on it of 30$. Let’s just see if those guys at customs are satisfied now. Thanks!
I only have my phone to take pictures which definitely won’t work for long range beamshots. Short range won’t show anything meaningful probably. I can perhaps borrow a camera that has optical zoom. I do have a lot of places to test all over. There is a large white tower in town that I have used as a target. From 1500 meters my TK75 shouldn’t reach it (1150m of throw) but it does… The BLF GT also reaches it but it’s a hair brighter. And I do mean a hair. I also tested in a nature reserve nearby where I stood on a hill trying to see trees in the distance. The trees here are spread out on large fields at different distances which makes it easy to compare lights. When I used the BLF GT it would very faintly show the silloute of a treeline directly behind a treeline I was able to see with the TK75. To me that seems off.
The only way to know for sure is to actually measure both lights with a lux meter (from maybe 20 meters) and then you can calculate what each lights actual ANSI-FL1 rated distance is.
If your into this kind of stuff, you can get a lux meter as little as $15 to $30.
Also remember that the rated distances are measured down to a quarter of a lux, which is very faint and not very practical.
I think 2 people had defective leds which only had 3 of the 4 dies working. Make sure to verify you emitter is okay.
I thought about getting a lux meter, guess I’ll do it since I’m definitely into this kind of stuff haha. I know they are cheap, just a shame about the shipping.
I know the distances are not something to go by in terms of useful light. However, relative to eachother the GT should still have roughly double the range, as it has a cd rating that is almost four times as high as the TK75.
Correct me if I’m wrong:
TK75: 340.000cd
340.000/0,25 = 1.360.000
√1.360.000 = 1166 meters of throw
Maybe if anyone from the Netherlands (in the east) feels like it I could compare with another GT, but for now I guess I will get a lux meter and share my findings later.
I’m still looking forward to the release of the XHP70 light engine/kit. Will definitely get that one when it’s available.
Thank you for your replies Jason, you’ve been a big help for everyone here.
What more is needed? I got a refund in a random amount, I have no what was cancelled or why, the amount does not equal any particular item or set of items, and I never received the specific items mentioned.
