(prototype) the GT Mini

Really?

Well, here’s the solution: I hereby give you permission to send messages to my PM box in BLF anytime you like.

With public greetings,
Nico

I need two.

You have to sign up at the link a couple posts above.

Knurling on the body tube. That’s a big improvement right there!!

As I watch the photo it’s comparable with the UT02. Is it better? I already have the Utorch, so I am only interested if it’s a better thrower.

Down for two please.

me wanty

Based on the specs, the Mini-GT will likely out-throw the UT02, and will have a nicer UI. Also hopefully a better button, as I found the button on my UT02 awfully mushy. Beyond that, it will come down to which type of driver is being used. If the Mini-GT uses a FET+1 driver like the Emisar D1S, then the UT02 will have the advantage of more stable output over time due to its boost driver as well as greater efficiency at mid-levels. But if the Mini-GT uses a boost driver, or even just a buck driver, then the UT02 might lose that advantage.

There’s also the difference of whether you prefer 18650s for compatibility with other lights, or the longer runtimes of 26650s combined with micro-USB charging.

They seem pretty comparable as far as output and distance. I seem to remember some people getting really low output from the UT02 after Utorch adjusted the drivers down to increase reliability. I can’t remember if they were measuring 1000 or 1200, though. It was pretty low for a xhp35-HI.

The mini GT seems to have a 9mm smaller diameter head combined with a slightly smaller die size emitter so my guess was the mini GT would have a little bit tighter hot spot giving it more throw, but the pictures show them with a similar sized hotspot. Oh well, I guess the differences equal out.

I think the big selling point on the mini GT is the styling and UI. It’s also much smaller and lighter than the UT02.

If the driver is a FET, the XPL-HI can handle higher amps. At 7A it might be doing 1700 lumen which would definitely beat the UT02. In stock form they appear to have similar throw.

It should be named MT , from Micro or Mini Thrower , compared to GT

“MT” pronounced “empty”? … I think “mini GT” sounds better.

Maybe another word haha ! Little Thrower (LT) maybe

Mini Giga Thrower is kind of ironic

We need this!!!

If 18650 is ‘mini’ and 18350 is ‘micro,’ then how about ‘pico’ for the AAA model?

:D

As far as I can tell, that’s the point. Same size and performance as a D1S, but with a different look and feel. Also, an optional 18350 version.

Both can be converted, if you can find or make a clicky-switch tailcap which fits. It’ll also need new firmware. I added dual-switch support to Anduril a while back, which basically just makes it turn on at the memorized level when it gets power (instead of blinking and turning off). So, momentary on the tail switch, brightness and extra modes on the side switch.

… similar to a Mini C8 Mini C8 AAA XM-L U2 Mod. XP-G2 Shots Added. 1.17.13

I find it humorous the lengths people are willing to go to in order to make (or not make) a purchase. Especially in flashlights, have to analyze the heck out of it, yet the closet has how many shirts/shoes/slacks/jackets/coats? We buy a new shirt because we like how it looks, think it’ll look good on us, not usually because our closet is bare and we have nothing to wear.

Flashaholics are like that with lights… ooooooooh! I LIKE that one! Where do I sign up? :stuck_out_tongue: (Hmmm, could this be why I have 200 lights?)

I NEEEEEED the 10440 version of the GT! I do, I really really do!

Did I read over the information?

In the sign up list you have the choice between CW and NW LED

Are there any information about the colour temperature or the Bin of the LEDs?
