Forgive my ignorance, but who is Nellie the Elephant?

I hadn’t heard of this before either, but wikipedia has some info. It seems to be a song which played on BBC radio in the 1950s and 1960s. It lists this for lyrics:

(lived in England for a while with two irishmen, one catholic from Dublin, one protestant from Belfast, have learned a few words that I was never taught in English class.)

Despite being 1/4 Welsh (my middle name is Wynne) to my shame I don’t speak the lingo. The UK is really quite a diverse country with several languages. English being the common denominator, which helps.

Swearing and cursing is fairly universal though, even if we don’t quite understand each other the meaning gets across…

It is well known that satire is not understood by everyone, and on the internet you are in fact talking to everyone. So part of your communication arsenal, however fun and harmless, may better be reserved for one’s own friends/part of the world. Or else live with a couple of rude points every now and then

I wish. semi-retired. Aerospace is in a poor state at the moment. Rolls Royce just announced 4600 layoffs today, which is very bad.

And our first batch of F35s got delayed due to stormy weather over the Atlantic :person_facepalming:
