Test/review of PKCell AA 2600mAh (Green-silver)

PKCell AA 2600mAh (Green-silver)

Official specifications:

  • Nominal voltage: 1.2V

  • Capacity: 2600mAh

  • Cycle life: 500

  • Rapid charge current: 780mA

Maximum temperature raise at different discharge currents: 1A:+1,6°C, 2A:+4,0°C, 3A:+7,1°C, 5A:+13,4°C, 7A:+19,8°C, 10A:+24,5°C
A high capacity cell from PK.

The two cells has acceptable tracking for NiMH and has more than rated capacity. They are a bit weak at very high current.

Conclusion

PK cells is good at high capacity cells, these cells are some of the highest capacity AA cells around.

How is the test done and how to read the charts
Compare to other AA/AAA batteries: Alkaline/NiMH/Lithium

Wow, this is a high capacity one. I am curious, how it can hold charge.

adam7027,

If you look at the comparator on HKJ’s website, and compare to Eneloop, the performance of this cell is not as good. The comparator shows that this cell does have higher capacity than Eneloop 2450mAh cells. But, the voltage line drops lower than Eneloop on every test, right at the beginning, and stays lower throughout the discharge cycle, until Eneloop reaches capacity, and PKCell continues a little longer.

I don’t know what the price is for these cells, but if it is significantly lower price, and you need that extra little bit of capacity, and you can stand the slightly lower operating voltage, it might be worth it to buy these over Eneloop. A lot of electronics that use AA are still not made to work with the lower voltage of NiMH already. A further drop of another 0.1V could make the extra “capacity” of the cell useless if the thing can’t draw that low.

Yes, I noticed that. I didn’t consider that as an ultimate choice for any use cases. Just I noticed, that I don’t remember, that HKJ tested any AA NiMH cells with this amount of capacity so far.
