Review: SkyRay STL-V2 XM-L T6 3 or 5 modes adjustable

Yeah, thanks, I was wondering where this short is, because there is. Light is visibly brighter, on meter it is only 5-7klux, but it is visible :) I will try to make a washer today :)

yeah really, the head looks bigger

I was running STL-V2 on 3x16340 yesterday - everything was ok at least for 10 minutes - and shall get also a 1x18650 length tube soon... Legoing is nice

My STL-V2 arrived and I took it out tonight to see how it measures up to my Trustfire TR-1200 (3x 18650). Well I was totally pleased with the output of the TR-1200 until tonight. The Sky Ray STL-V2 (2x 18650) is now my new stallion. It is a very impressive torch. I am very pleased with this purchase. Worth every cent!

Ok, I have given up with 3- mode only driver but I have a problem.
My friend probably fried the driver, are these original drivers available anywhere, strobes are accepted…
Tailcap would also be in need, at least the clicky mechanism.

Hmm, still have not found the source :|

Any advice for the original driver?

I don’t have a source for the original driver but the SST50 driver is a power upgrade but two blinky modes suck.

Thanks for the links!

Any idea of how these will fit in or does host need lathe-work? :)

4A is a bit much on the emitter but I guess these are the only ones available. :|

I just recieved my STL-V2. I wasn’t impressed during the day with it. Comparing it with my X9 it seemed exactly the same only bigger. Taking it out and shining on some trees in the distance, the difference in throw is apparent. The beam goes way farther with about the same spill. Longer runtimes as well. Very happy.

I modded my fandyfire V6 with this driver and it's brighter, 4A is fine. Below are my instructions from an earlier post #136. You can use a belt sander or hand file to cut tube shorter as instructed below. Almost a drop in mod and very easy.

If you use the DX SST driver be sure to mod the tube on the end that changes modes with the old driver. Remove material at the end of the tube so the threads bottom out and tube end does not make contact with driver. Another solution might be an insulator washer. Not heeding this suggestion may result in a direct short. Don't ask me how I know this information. YMMV

the one I gave link to is original one

Oh, sorry. I have not put one yet to pieces so I did not know how it looks. Thanks!

Now, have to make decision between original at 10€ or DX driver at 5€+ :)

Originall could be stronger, I run mine now with DX sst-50 driver and it is brighter.

If you remove the tube (the 18650 tube) and look at the driver there is an extra contact ring. This is what makes the dual 3/5 mode work. When tight the tube contacts this ring for 3 mode. When the SST50 driver is installed this will cause a direct short to the positive and a small amount of the end of the tube will need to be removed. On the one I modded to this driver the ”Straight” knurl part that holds the driver was NOT glued and was easy to unscrew from the finned reflector housing. This made it easy to remove the driver. The last two lights I have received were glued. HTH

What is better? SkyRay STL-V2 or FandyFire STL-V6.

¿How many meters throw?

Or is there another similar price to throw more??

Bye

Having owned both, can say they are identical. Although bargains can be found they are the best value for the money.

They should throw same. I dont know for XML thrower wich can throw as these two (You must look for 60mm+ diammeter of the head and well driven light to be up to par with them)

There is one Small Sun light from manafont, with sideswitch, just 28$, with same width reflector but underdriven.
If moded, wich is not so easy, it can throw about like these two

How many meters throw aprox SkyRay STL-V2 and FandyFire STL-V6?

They can lit something with 0,25lux at approximatelly 440 meters, i think.
