Brinyte T16 Artemis teardown and review Cree XPE Green,Red,Blue

Hey lads so i was sent the T16 Artemis from Brinyte for commenting in the thread. So i guess a bunch of got a light? They didn’t say to review the T16 Artemis but seeings its unique i will take some pics and see how we go.

No specs or instruction where sent with the light so all these numbers are mine. As for output figures i have never tried to measure any coloured LED’s so i am not sure how well it would work. This pics are dodgy i will update them i get time!

The Artemis T16 is a tri colour flashlight that is purpose built for hunting. The T16 is using an adjustable focus lens system. Each colour only has one mode from what i can tell simple on and off is all you get. The T16 also includes a laser in the center of the head.

  • Weight: 324 grams without the battery
  • Length: 180mm
  • Head diameter per single: 33mm
  • Head largest part: 68.2mm
  • Lens 30mm
  • MCPCB: 16mm

The tail cap is a pain in the arse! I think they had issues with the built and fit of the tail cap its a dodged up.

30mm lens its the same material on the B158 not glass

O-ring under the lens and i already lost a centering ring damn it!

All the boards say Cree but i will let Djozz figure out what LED’s these are?

The 100m shots are not showing well and bad comparing to what i see. So i took some pics on auto to make it a bit more even.

Its 1am here so i will leave it here for now. The tail cap is a pain there is an extra piece of rubber that need to be in place to make contact with the switch. Not to mention that white strip of plastic that is also needed. I got the tail cap back together but it isn’t the same yet and i lost a centering ring. I cant see why you could need two retaining rings for the tail cap? One looks like its just there as a spacer.

I would of preferred a white LED rather than the blue LED included. I will undo the hex screws at the front and try and get to the driver and update here.

Thanks for your detailed review. We will enhance the flashlights based on your advice

Okay i pulled the light apart fully.

They are using an unpopulated driver as a partition board not sure why?
!

!

Far side is the flashlight driver set up. Closest side appears to be for the laser diode and looks like a simple on and off circuit.
!

!

The driver is fairly simple looks like a resistor setup with a small FET.
!

!

Three screws hold the head in place they are T15 size. The light appears to have an O-ring around the head but i didn’t take it out. I had a closer look mat the LED they appear to be Cree XPEs i am not sure of the binning.

Thanks for the review and strip down Chris. :+1:

Thanks for the review. It looks like you got a prototype, with that unused driver board as a contact board, and the weird combination of leds (both XP-E and XP-E2, assuming they are Cree leds at all).

Being no hunter this light does not appeal to me, I wonder what a hunter’s perspective is on this lamp.

Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster !!!

How I don’t see this earlier :person_facepalming:

I’m sorry for maybe I will disturb your topic, but I receive this light almost a month ago and I don’t know what to do with it.
Luckily all packages that I receive I record the unboxing and look in front of the camera for possible mistakes, faults and damages, and also I try to turn on the product to see if it works and how it works…

When I receive this light and record opening of package, light was in perfect condition but it won’t work ! Simply I try couple of cells and no one of the two switches was working, more precisely there is no light output… And when I shake the lights something in tail cap was ‘’ringing’’.

I contact Brinyte and show them a video of unboxing and that I received a faulty light etc, but no help from them, ok I can understand a representative here on BLF is probably from sales department and it is not engineer but I can’t understand if they check and send me a working light how the hell it stop to work in transport ???

Since I see that they can’t help me, I try to figure out myself what is going on here… When I open a head of the light I was in shock what the hell is this, to many wires, too many boards and every solder contact was covered with some red thing ( I think it is a melted plastic ) so I can’t desolder anything…

Then I open a tail cap and see what I found in it, it is different than your’s :person_facepalming:

Then I understand some things, that ‘’ringing’’ in tailcap was this little white round plastic it somehow fall off during transport ( maybe package was trowing in airplane etc ), and I can’t be in touch with this little white switch and I can’t press it. This little green part of rubber sit on the top of big switch ( there is no point to sit there since it have contact without it ), I don’t understand why but ok.

I assembled a tail cap again and o la la, when I press small switch and hold it I have two light outputs red and green and they are changing red then 0.5 second pause and green then 1.5 second nothing and again red then 0.5 pause and green and 1.5 sec nothing and all way in the circle so. Still big switch is not working, pressing it I get nothing !

Then I took my DMM and and put probes on battery and flashlight and I get same like a pressing small switch red, green in circle, and nothing more. So this should eliminate a big switch and tells that some other thing is not in right since it won’t work with DMM also…
But I’m not sure I don’t know how this light works I eaven don’t know how this switches are working

So please can you help a little just to try understand what the hell is going here ? What you get when press big switch and what when press smaller one ? Or if you can record a video and post whatever.

Thanks.

Hey, thanks for your feedback, this problem has been fed back to our engineer, will let you know the new progress of it ASAP.

Hey djozz thanks for the input mate i checked the LED compared to Cree listing and photos they look the same. The red and blue looks like a the original XPGs and XML matching the XPE look. The green looks like the new production XPG2s so that one would be a XPE2 i guess. The blue looks like blue from standard blue from Cree not royal blue.

As for an actual hunting light i am not sure. Its a tad bulky but some people do go hunting with with throwers like the L2 so this isn’t so different in size.

The small electronic switch works the flashlight side of the operations. The clicky/mechanical switch controls the laser. The laser is on a simple on/off circuit while the flashlight side has a proper driver. Check the driver for any pinched wires? Does the laser work?

Mine also has the extra piece of rubber for contact but i took it out after taking apart the tail cap and tightening it down.

As far as I understand you a big black switch is only for laser on/off ?
When I press big black nothing is happens, and when I press and hold small white switch only red and green are changing all the time nothing other is happening… When I release small white switch it stops to change red and green all the time, so I don’t have idea how to turn on this lamp permanently without to hold my finger on the switch all the time…

Yea black switch is for the laser only. I think your light is broken. Do you want to pull it apart and have a look at the driver?

I already opened it, as I said before.

Ok, black for laser and small white for 3x LED’s, but I don’t get it how it works ? Since on mine it not work till I keep my finger on switch… This is or broken or useless since no one will hold a finger all time on switch that light can works…
What is situation on your sample when you press a small white switch what is happening ?

I will open it once again to see situation but I doubt that I anything can do.

So the electronic switch (Small white one switch) Controls the 3 LEDs. I just click the switch on and it turns on and i push and hold the same switch to change modes. I would say your driver is broken in some way if you cant see any loose wires. Take a pic me for me if you have to time to check the driver.

To make it easier the round button is the laser and the switch that looks like a half moon is the control for the LEDs.

If you get a chance watch the video or skim through it. I use the light in the video.

I watch the video thanks for the effort !

Here is problem much deeper, if first when I receive a light I was thinking that problem is in tailcap and that switch is broken, since I was thinking a big switch is for on/off and small one for changing try led-s, but I was wrong I see now how it needs to work, but this is faultu. First of all interior of my tailcap is different than yours, second I already told maybe you don’t notice, all solder contacts are covered with some red thing ( I think it is a melted plastic ) so I can’t desolder anything.

So when I short press white switch it just blink for 0.1 second red or green and nothing, when I hold on it, it works but only red and green and it was changing from red to green, from green to red all the time untill I release a switch. When I press a black switch absolutely nothing. Same situation when I check with my DMM. So something in driver is faultu or whatever since only they know what they done here…

Luckily I record a video when unboxing a package so I can prove that light arrive to my place faultu, Brinyte is great budget flashlight manufacturer ( with some deficiency but almost all of light have them ), but here I don’t know what to say they complicate things very much, they better made a new b158 with larger head and new XHP 35HI, XHP 70 etc, easy money for them…

Sorry mate i must of missed what you wrote the first time!

Mine only has a few glue joints in total.

Thanks for the photos a few things i would look at. One of the negative wires has heat shrinking over it its possible that the wire is loose inside their and also one of the positive wires has a screw right next to it. It appears to be touching the wire and the body of the light that could also be an issue.

Seeing as its a prototype i dont think Brinyte will send another one. Maybe pull it apart and turn it into a triple? I think it would be an awesome build building a triple running on a Fet you can flood and throw at the same time!

I see what you’re talking about, I will check that later and post here about.
Problem is that all contacts are inaccessible so I can’t check anything with DMM is there connections all over there.

I don’t have time to play with this will just check your’s sugestion and if problem is not solved I will put it into museum.
