The BLF GT70 "Giggle Monster" is here! 7,500lumens, 1,500m throw! Group buy Closed!

I’m in for a conversion kit and a lens,maybe a reflector - confirmation received3 by mail

Signed up for 2 – Conversion Kit

Signed up for:

1 x GT70 NW
1 x (8) 30Q Batteries

Maybe on (1) extra lens depending on price

Signed up for 2 full lights. Prefer neutral white.
Would like extra reflector, lens and cell carrier for both
Would like one set of batteries, not two.

On a side note: I would also like to request an option for the shorty tube. Tried ordering direct from Neal but was eventually told they were out of stock and had to raise a Paypal disbute to get my $10 back.

Dumb question maybe, but with the short tube, is lumens/lux the same but only shorter run times?

With just 4 high drain cells you’ll get a little more voltage sag so you lose just a little bit of output, but not much. So it’s mainly run time that you’ll notice.

It’s kind of like running the Q8 on 4 cells or 8 cells. 4 gives it plenty of power. 8 gives it a little extra boost plus the longer runtimes.

Got it, thanks JasonVW.

OMG, You guys are killing me……

for the conversion kit,
will there be a need for refocusing, dome vs slice dome?
can we buy a spare centering ring?
can the centering ring to the led be the shape of the led square instead of circle?
will there be xx awg wires provided from driver to led?

how many amps thru the led using the new driver?

Sorry if I missed this, but when will the group buy close?

Signed up for 1 – Conversion Kit, 1 - Battery Carrier.
Thank-you

It hasn’t begun, lol.
Right now we are just taking orders/reservations to see what people want. It may be a month or two before orders are put in and the group buy goes live. Orders can then be finalized and paid for. There is currently no set deadline to pay. That will have to be determined later.

I think the rough time line is for the group buy to finish in 3 months. So if your interested you can fill out the form now and set money aside for later. Updates will be in post #1.

I have another question.

I have my doubts about the XHP70.2 being able to survive for long against a FET driver with 8x18650 behind it. Texas Ace claims the driver can output 250 watts. As per TA’s own measurements, the XHP70.2 outputs 10k lumens at 187 watts, at which point it is already starting to be so overdriven it has started to lose output. That is at a forward voltage of 15.6volts, when a FET driver will push voltage directly from the batteries, at about 16.8 volts on a fresh set of batteries. That means 5.5 amps/battery (190watts, maximum tested by TA, already harmful for the led) or 7.5 amps/battery (250 watts the driver is claimed to be able to sustain). 7.5 amps is not such a high amperage that a set of high discharge batteries, like the 30Q batteries that may be offered for sale bundled with the light, would sag overly from it.

I’m guess you guys have found a solution to this problem, but I wonder what it is.

TA has tested it in reality and it works/survives. He can probably explain why better than I can.

I haven’t gotten all the test numbers from him on amp draws, etc… which is why this info is blank in the Specs area. The amp draw may also vary a bit based on the particular emitter used. This has not been decided on yet.

Maybe he can fill in some of those details later today.

It’s early days yet. This will be answered as soon as it’s known.

Yes, I am working on the short tube being an option, just waiting for confirmation and final price.

The new centering ring that will come with the kit should focus the light, although the xhp70.2 has a lot of adjustment room depending on if you want maximum throw or least dark spot in the middle of the beam.

So it is possible that people may want to refocus it anyways for their own preference but I do not expect lumintop to offer different centering ring options and they have not confirmed with me what focus they are going with.

I have some 3D printed centering rings I could release for people to print out if needed. or I could sell the rings themselves as well worst case.

I do not think spare centering rings will be an option.

It will have a circle in the middle, square centering rings can cause issues like snapping the LED off the mcpcb when tightening the reflector if it grabs for some reason.

It should be 20AWG wires like the normal GT.

The Amps will depend on the exact LED they find, which is why they are not listed yet. In my testing I have seen 9-10A being the normal range with 8 full high drain cells.
