PlayStation 3 advice needed

I just bought a used slim PlayStation 3 and controller on eBay.

I plan to buy a 1.5TB internal hard drive and a couple of HDMI cables.

The PS3 comes with a power cord, and a charging cord for the controller.

I have my own source for games.

I've had a PS1, DreamCast, and PS2.

I've never owned or used a PS3 before.

What other hardware should I buy to go with the PS3?

EDIT: Almost forgot...

I also have two PS4 controllers for my laptop that I could use on the PS3.

How about a decent HDMI projector for outdoor game nights, a small amplifier and some speakers.

I can only think of one thing, and that’s Resident Evil skin/sticker for your console and controller.

LOL, I've never even heard of an HDMI projector!

Sounds interesting but I play video games indoors and don't have a blank wall to project an image on to.

I have an amp for some nice headphones, and some speakers, though I do not play games loudly without headphones.

I like your thinking, however.

I had a sweet Tekken 3 skin for my PS1!

I hope that RE8 is at least as good as RE7, though I'll probably have to play it on a Windows machine.

A 3m USB cable.

It is really useful to have when you run out of battery in a game, and not having to charge the battery ever is extremely useful.

An external HDD just in case for some reason.

Headphones when you want to play and people are sleeping, mostly kids.

And that is about it.

I don’t know if I would go with a HD that large but I would say get a 256GB SSD for an actual upgrade.

I still use mine for a media center, netflix, you tube, bluray player, and sometimes a game machine.

It is a big hard drive.

I plan to install a lot of games onto it.

Projectors even come in 4K now. They are wicked fun outside. Drop in to your local Home Depot, grab a big white tarp, string it up on the side of the house or between a few trees. Run all the appropriate wires, hook up some decent sound and just have a great night with friends and family. We do it here, weather permitting, with movies instead of games but the same principles apply. I have a acre big side yard and all the neighbors from around my area come and we watch a good fun movie, have some beverages, pop a bunch of popcorn and let the kids run wild. You could do the same thing with some 100 inch plus gaming, depending on what you want to put out on a projector.

Looks like my PS3 is coming from the bottom of Camp Crystal Lake:

Do you know if that's a double-male USB cable?

No, it’s just a mini-B to USB-A cable.

So just take any long mini-B USB cable you have, or just buy the cheapest one you can.

Okay, I need to buy a 6-foot cable because I won't be that far away from the PS3.

Very good!

Sounds like your video game source is the same as mine

That is pretty handy. Run it on your pc to stream media to the PS3. Been years since I had mine, but I think that is what I used.

You might want a BT mic if you plan on communicating with others online

i bought a used ps3 a couple of years ago and its still my main gaming system for the few times in the week i do play, now i mainly read books on my kindle. the only things for me that were a must was a mic for online play, and a charging dock for my controller so i dont have to deal with a bunch of cables and i just put it back on the dock when im done playing. for the first 2 weeks or so i used the cable that came with it and a 6 ft usb extension i bought off of monoprice really cheap

I ordered two USB extension cords from Monoprice.

I don't play games online, so I don't need a mic.

If I like the PS3 controller more than my PS4 controllers, I'll probably get another one and a charging stand.

sweet, the extensions i have are still running strong and monoprice is amazing for cheap good quality various cords and cables. i have them running from the usb ports on the back of my pc to my desk and they show no signs of fraying or a loose connector. i also bought one of their cheap 50 ft. ethernet cable to run under the house to my bedroom since the house wasnt wired with ethenet ports and its been great for over 5 years now.

Send it back! https://rpcs3.net if you have a good video card you can upscale the game and make it look way better.

I have a fat modded PS3 that has no working bluray drive lol. The PS3 controllers are not better but they last days instead of hours. Much preferable. Or if you can mod it: http://www.rivalgamer.com/threads/using-ps4-xbox360-xboxone-gamepad-on-ps3-using-ps3xpad-plugin.5625/ Use a real controller like a xbone. Or just use your PS4 ones.

I think the xbone controllers are the best, but since you already have PS4 ones why not use those?
