Emisar D4S review

Great review!

I really wish there will be something like the D4/D4s with forward tail clicky and USB-charging. Swapping batteries every day in an EDC light instead of simply plugging it to a USB charger anywhere is just too tedious for me.

The D4s can sustain ~1100-1300 Lumen for an extended period of time? Looks promising!

If it was a 21700 format I would be all over this, but I think the fat tube makes it look a bit out of proportion. Really liking the aux leds and the higher regulation though.

This looks awesome! I love where it sits wrt size compared to the others. Thanks for taking the time to share this before your trip. Very much appreciated!

edit: agree with above about 21700. The more lights that start using that cell, the better imo.

Of course it is the optic .The Leds are the same.

You have to get the 10621 for more Throw it is like the Triple 10507.

But use it only with the new MCPCB not with the old one.

I kinda haven’t been interested in 26650 lights of late but this one has piqued my interest :sunglasses:

Sorry if I missed it but does it accept flat top cells? There’s a nice KeepPower 5,950 mAh 26650 cell on ilumn.

https://www.illumn.com/batteries-chargers-and-powerpax-carriers/26650-keeppower-6000mah-protected-flat-top.html

That’s only 10A though, I think this beast will want more like 20A+ (40 max) ? I could be wrong though. Also it’s protected which won’t work if it’s like the D4.

Did I miss any mention of a release date and where they can be had? Possible to pre order? I want one!

Did you read the post #1?

So I’ll just end things here and wait for production models to cover themselves up.

From the first post, top battery contact:

I read the 1st post. It just says it’s a preproduction model. Didn’t know if someone maybe had more info than that. I guess we’ll just have to be patient for a while.

26650 or 21700... This is what I've been looking for!

I want one to complete the set. To be honest, I’m not wild about auxiliary blue LED’s. At least I can disable them.

That looks pretty easy to me, since they’re on a separate board. I’m pretty sure those are 0805-sized LEDs, same as most of us are already used to using to build lighted tailcaps and switches. So just pull that whole secondary board out, toss it on your hotplate or stove top or whatever other reflowing option you’re using, and apply heat. When the solder flows just sweep that whole pile of cyan emitters into the floor and drop on 16 new ones of your choice. Polarity is usually pretty well marked on those too, and the board has polarity marks in the pics. There’s even a 220 ohm resistor sitting there that can be swapped for other values to adjust brightness, if your new color is more/less efficient than the cyan. I love it!

The 2nd MCPCB for auxiliary leds is ingenius! However, I don’t want blue LEDs because according to so many scientific articles, being exposed to blue lights at nighttime affects sleep, not good for eyes, and is actually carcinogenic. That’s why the newer Iphones and other smartphones come with blue-light filter options. More reddish lights and colors on the other hand is beneficial. I’m wondering if Hank would consider offering warm white or pinkish auxiliary led options or at least sell boards with them so we can swap it in. Since this seems like a good bedside EDC, I think having the right color auxiliary led for that purpose would be helpful.

hope the green is original version

Yeah I don’t like blue either, I have flashbacks from when I was a kid shopping with my moms and I got trampled during one of those K-Mart Blue Light Specials, oh the Horror of it still remains…Pink reminds me of Cotton Candy…that I was eating when I flew off the Tilt-A-Whirl at the school carnival so that’s no good either…RED…. :person_facepalming:

Will XP-L HI and Nichia 219c be the only options?

I don’t have another idea to throw into the mix, but you mentioned only those two in your review.

Do you think that the extra size will be a better match, heat-wise for Nichia?

Might just have to carve out a replacement battery tube for it so I can make use of the iJoy 21700’s I have here…

I DO have a birthday coming up soon!

This looks like it will be much more practical then the D4. What size are the aux leds and do you think it would be possible to reflow new ones of different colors? Also, is there any chance you could add the ability to turn off mode-memory on the firmware?
