*BLF LT1 Lantern Project) (updated Nov,17,2020)

good points.

For now it is the BLF lantern.
But there may be others coming in the future.
For this reason I consider this name to be too generic.
I somewhat like how Q8 name included some technical details. Maybe L8?

Still think that ‘BLF companion’ is a perfect name.
Truly on style with what this lantern will be.
The number 1 companion to take with you on a trip.

I think sometimes you don’t want to choose a name that’s too obvious to have a good and strong name.

And please add me to the list!

That is sad news, I really liked the BLF LT logo, which was also perfectly in line with the other BLF flashlight names. On the one hand I can understand that they don’t want it to sound to similar to a product of an other manufacturer, but on the other hand I would also say that BLF could be seen as a kind of brandname/ trademark itself.

If we can’t use BLF Lt I would support BLF lighthouse.

I think it would be good if every BLF lamp has a similar logo.

It gives a bit more a professional touch for all the work done for a light.

- The border is always the same

- BLF too

- Rest of the name varies

  • and a little logo in it

BLF Lantern gets my vote.

Here are some ideas for the name, with possibly adding the lantern image either before or after the name?

BLF-Lantern
BLF-LNT
BLF World-Lantern
BLF WorldLight
BLF-ULT

How does BLF Camping sound?

This would be great, here are my suggestions:

What about the list for the vote?

BLF-ULTN

Let just use the name that fits the lantern. As suggested, BLF-Lantern. It’s from BLF and it’s a lantern. tada

BLF Polaris with or without L1 as the model number?

BLF L1 Polaris
BLF Polaris L1

Think Polaris got mentioned in an earlier post but didn’t seem to be picked upon as a possible name? I think its quite fitting for an outdoor lantern, as the first star most look for outdoors at night is the North or Pole star.

my favorite so far

I like the idea of BLF projects being named after stars and, since this project is headed by a canuck, naming the product after the North star seems fitting. +1 for Polaris.

BLF-L1 Polaris(with star logo)

A naming poll sounds like a good idea.

SkyLantern/ 天灯 is still my vote because I like festive references to foreign culture am a nerd. Also because just Lantern seems a bit… bland.

Other name ideas from earlier in the thread:

Edit:

Tom Tom: BLF Pharos

My favorite…

BLF Lampyrid - Noun: Any of several beetles of the family Lampyridae, comprising the fireflies.

The Lampyridae are a family of insects in the beetle order Coleoptera. They are winged beetles, commonly called fireflies or lightning bugs for their conspicuous use of bioluminescence during twilight to attract mates or prey.

The lantern itself looks like a lampyrid (lightning bug).
It has the word LAMP in it.
It lights the way at night.
You see them while camping.
It can ramp luminescence up and down.
…Very fitting if you ask me.

or:
BLF Twilight

BLF Firefly

or BLF EveningStar

or

BLFQ8L

or

BLF NorthStar

You missed mine, BLF Pharos,

Polaris reminds me of the Coleman North Star petrol lantern. A worthy tool, but nothing like this.

A small point, AFAIK the BLF GT is the only BLF torch to hint at the manufacturer (the Lumintop rabbit), all others have been totally discrete. Apart from that aberration when Kronological tried to take over and enforce his Kronos brand on the X5/X6 at the last minute. Megalomania gone mad, and he didn’t even appreciate the irony (look up Kronos, or Cronus)

Tom Tom,

As I recall, it wasn’t Kronological’s idea to put the Kronos label on anything. He wasn’t even a cheerleader for the idea when it came up. I personally did like the idea, just as I’ve been a fan of DBSAR getting his name somehow on this lantern. Again, DBSAR has also expressed that he doesn’t intend to make it so. In the case of the Kronos brand, it was one of the other team members that made it happen.
