Let just use the name that fits the lantern. As suggested, BLF-Lantern. It’s from BLF and it’s a lantern. tada

BLF Polaris with or without L1 as the model number?

BLF L1 Polaris
BLF Polaris L1

Think Polaris got mentioned in an earlier post but didn’t seem to be picked upon as a possible name? I think its quite fitting for an outdoor lantern, as the first star most look for outdoors at night is the North or Pole star.

I like the idea of BLF projects being named after stars and, since this project is headed by a canuck, naming the product after the North star seems fitting. +1 for Polaris.

A naming poll sounds like a good idea.

SkyLantern/ 天灯 is still my vote because I like festive references to foreign culture am a nerd. Also because just Lantern seems a bit… bland.

Other name ideas from earlier in the thread:

From me:
- Campfire
- CF6 (CampFire, 6 LEDs?)
- SunLight
- SL4 (Sunlight 4, 4*7135 chips?)

Joechina: Lantern, or L6

Zulumoose: BLF Lan10 or L10

angerdan: BLF Campfire Lantern, BLF CL 3-5K, BLF CL Q8, BLF CL08, BLF CL2018, BLF Lantern 18, BLF Lantern 3-5K, BLF Lantern Q8

vinte77: BLF Camptern

thisjsco19: BLF companion

Grappler: BLF 247 Lantern, BLF 24-7 Lantern, BLF 365 Lantern

peabody: BLFUL or BLF/UL or BLF*UL (ultimate lantern), BLF/HPL (high powered lantern), BLF/EOL (extreme output lantern), BLF/AI

dekozn: DBSAR Lighthouse, DBSAR Pharos, DBSAR Cynosure, DBSAR Lodestar

waxing twilight: BLF Eternal Flame or BLF Eternal Lantern or BLF EF Lantern

Goodtobeking: BLF D44, BLF D8

Boaz: BLFCamplite, BLF Happy Camper, BLF Nite Lite, BLF Campgear, BLF Equip, BLF Tacticool Gear, BLF# RCL (Really cool lantern)

rockhound42: BLF L1 Polaris, BLF Polaris L1, BLF Polaris

chinooker: BLF-ULTN

DBSAR: BLF-LNT , BLF World-Lantern, BLF WorldLight, BLF-ULT

The names BLF Artificial Sun Shine and BLF Ultimate Camplighting Kit are out for obvious reasons.

If I missed yours, I’m sorry. I tried to add in all the names I saw.

Edit:

Tom Tom: BLF Pharos

My favorite…

BLF Lampyrid – Noun: Any of several beetles of the family Lampyridae, comprising the fireflies.

The Lampyridae are a family of insects in the beetle order Coleoptera. They are winged beetles, commonly called fireflies or lightning bugs for their conspicuous use of bioluminescence during twilight to attract mates or prey.

The lantern itself looks like a lampyrid (lightning bug).
It has the word LAMP in it.
It lights the way at night.
You see them while camping.
It can ramp luminescence up and down.
…Very fitting if you ask me.

You missed mine, BLF Pharos,

Polaris reminds me of the Coleman North Star petrol lantern. A worthy tool, but nothing like this.

A small point, AFAIK the BLF GT is the only BLF torch to hint at the manufacturer (the Lumintop rabbit), all others have been totally discrete. Apart from that aberration when Kronological tried to take over and enforce his Kronos brand on the X5/X6 at the last minute. Megalomania gone mad, and he didn’t even appreciate the irony (look up Kronos, or Cronus) Wink

Tom Tom,

As I recall, it wasn’t Kronological’s idea to put the Kronos label on anything. He wasn’t even a cheerleader for the idea when it came up. I personally did like the idea, just as I’ve been a fan of DBSAR getting his name somehow on this lantern. Again, DBSAR has also expressed that he doesn’t intend to make it so. In the case of the Kronos brand, it was one of the other team members that made it happen.

I call my mates at work lanterns, because they are pretty dull and always need to be carried Big Smile

BLF Lantern gets my vote

edit: this light kills my saying as it won’t exactly be dull

You are not too late for anything. Would you like to be added to the interest list? No committment, but if you think you would like to buy one (price tbd, likely <$50) then let us know.

There are so many good name options, maybe we should post a poll vote topic?

Many suggested that, but i felt the lantern t be more of a project for everyone. One suggested: “ BLF-SARlantern “ as a possibility that may work.

Can you add “BLF Lantern” to the poll? Nothing before and nothing after the name.

Second try for the logo Smile

Color pattern comes from the US flag to imply quality:

With some blur, imitating light emission:

I know blurs or colors are probably not allowed but these are just some ideas that I thought to be cool.
