SST-50 MAG

Well i've finally got it together it's my first mod turned out ok but i think i have a poor led as it's not as bright as i would of thought, It's currently running of 2 x 18650 and pulling 4.5 amps at the led.

Beam shots distance to hedge is approx 100 feet..

Mag led as reference

SST-50 MAG

Ultrafire RL-118

UniqueFire L2 with MCE drop-in

wow that isnt good at all!!!!

not for an SST-50!

bad reflector possibly?

Standard Mag reflector, also it is supposedly a WJ bin led

This might help.

With an absent dome (assuming it is the same LED) it ought to throw better. Another reflector might help.

Cheers Don yes it's the same LED i managed to soldier onto the top of the circuit board in the end.

Would ann uprated reflector make the torch any better, i would of thought the standard mag reflector would of been up to the job..

Just out of interest what should the output be like

The necessary datasheets are not here, they are in a box 140 miles away. At 4500mA it is past 1000 lumens. Maybe 1200. About 2/3 of that will make it out, say 6-800 lumens at a guess.

The Mag reflector isn't designed for a high-power LED. Unless it is a recent MagLED with the Rebel emitter in it.

Ditching the car here and walking 7 miles (in deep powder snow) to a railway station in the morning. There is now 2 feet (60cm) of snow on my car. No sign of a snow plough or gritter yet.

Bloody hell mate, snows all gone down here now..

I'll get one of those reflectors and i think ill get another emitter as i really don't like the colour temp of this one..

Who sale's decent quality emitters and will ship to the UK

Hope you manage to get to the train station ok, at least you'll have plenty of lights to light the way ahead..

I only have about 8 with me - the RQ has seen the most use for lighting up icicles. This one is 2m (6.5') long and as thick as my arm.

Thats one hell of an icicle !!

Plenty of those where that one came from. About -6 here.

we got clear weather in connecticut usa!

The problem may be one of focus, since all of these reflectors should be reasonably parabolic. If you don't mind some slightly destructive testing, you can try moving the emitter relative to the reflector (ie. may have to cut the plastic to move it in the other direction).
