DC10a battery test

I was testing my 10440 battery when it sparked. I wondered what I hit to make it do that so I carefully tried again. Small spark, no change on the DMM. That’s when I saw it was on DC10a… doh! After I tested it correctly (3.88v) the battery was warm. Before I charge it I figured I might as well come on here and see if the battery is toast first.
Remember kids, check your DMM before use!

I've done that more times than I care to admit. I actually bought another DMM just so I'd have one for voltage and one for current so I would minimize the threat. :p

I only had to take that lesson once to go the same twin-DMM way ... Smile

I use a pair of extremely heavy copper leads for current - they are quite visually distinctive 16mm2 copper which basically gets bent into shape and stays there and cannot be mistaken for multimeter leads.

Bu the dedicated meter idea makes a lot of sense. Since I own more than one meter I think I'll be doing that myself.

Good to know others have done this too. The cell is fine by the way. Charged it back to 4.20 and it’s been in my pocket in the itp all day
