[Review] Nitefox UT20

Nitefox sent me this -new -model for reviewing purposes.
I got the light for free in exchange of an objective review.

Here are a couple glamour shot in my garden :

So it’s a double switch light.
The rear switch is FW clicky, and has multiple uses.
The side switch is an e-switch, used to change modes.
There are 2 group of modes, “outdoor” and “tactical”.

Outdoor :

- rear switch for ON/OFF

  • side switch :
  • click to cycle modes : L-M1-M1-H
  • long click for Strobe

Tactical : rear switch only, side switch does nothing

- half-press to cycle through L-H-strobe

  • full click for ON

Then comes the micro-USB integrated charging. You can use any 18650 battery.
You have to press the rear switch to close the charging circuit of course.
There’s an LED indicator under the side switch :

- red rapid flashing : either you didn’t click the rear clicky, or the battery is in wrong direction.

- red slow flashing : charging.

  • green steady : fully charged.

The switch indicator also indicates the battery level when you start the light, for about 5 seconds it will lights in Green or Red.

I find it a bit too big to be honest, look at the comparison pic with an S2+…
The reflector is not bigger, yet it’s 4mm in diameter more than the S2+… and 22mm longer !
Even with an integrated charging circuit I’m sure it’s possible to be smaller.
But compactness is not the ultimate goal of all manufacturers… I guess Olight spoiled me for years and I can’t stand big 18650 tube light anymore :-p

That said, this is a great light, bright and with an interesting UI.

“New model”… how?

I’ve been pocketing my “old” ’20 since I got it, and don’t object to it being a giant.

The S2+ deep-carry clip from FT fits the ’20 perfectly, fwiw.

You’re totally right, I don’t know why I assumed it was new…
I don’t really really know their products, I thought it was a new player in the Chinese flashlight market…

I think they are, at least I wasn’t aware of them before. Lots of new players on the field the past coupla years…

Which is a good thing. More competition.
