Q8 Batteries?

I purchased mine from here

I did read a thread weeks ago about shipping charges being very high though.

Thanks these are 300o mha
I dis that enough?

That is about all you are going to get out of a high drain button top. You can use the LG MJ1 at 3500mah but they are only rated at 10amps. It is what I use in mine though, and they last quite some time. I also don’t use full output on it most of the time.

An Ali store has 4 30Qs BT for like $12 shipped to US. Don't have the link right now. $20 shipped is a normal great deal.

Hiya fellow BLF new guy. I too just purchased the Q8, great little light. I’m using 4 x Imalent Protected batteries MRB186P30 3000mAh 15 Amp from a local ebay seller here in Australia, AUD$40. Not as cheap as what is available in other countries but work really well. Says they are Samsung 30Q cells.

Have some Sony VTC6 coming from same ebay seller and 8 x Samsung30Q in transit from banggood.

Actually the Q8 will work with one, two, three cells. (button tops) Of course four is what you really want to use.
One will get you going …
I bought six 30Q cells myself four cells for my Q8 - and two for my BLF A6.

The BLF A6 is another excellent light, the Samsung 30Q’s are excellent cells for this light too.
If you don’t have an A6 I recommend that you look into that light too.

Oh yeah, your’e going to have to watch your wallet, these things are addicting.

In the US you can buy cells from these retailers:
LiOn Wholesale
Battery junction
Mountain Electronics
IMR Batteries

I have purchased from all these I really don’t favor one over the other. I have good experiences from all these retailers,

Welcome to the BLF!

I have a Q8, a few Convoys and Astrolux flashlights. Most of my batteries are Samsung 30Q 18650 button top unprotected which are highly recommended by people on this forum. I have bought all of these (in packs of 4 batteries) on several orders from Banggood. They all work well and I believe they are genuine.
I usually wait for a flash deal when they reduce the price. There is a shipping charge of about $4, but if you buy 2 packs the shipping comes down to about 75 cents. At the moment I think they are less than $20 for 4.

However as I’m in Australia, I am curious to know if Banggood ship batteries to the USA, and what the postage charges are?
Anybody know?

Thnaks!
Any links are are/is? lol appreciated!

Thanks all for the replies! You folks rock!
Another newbie question-the threads on the Q8 are quite tight and precise and with batteries in
and springs pushing it makes it difficult for me to seat the threads to start and even tighten fully the head-any thoughts?
I obviously don’t want to strip the threads
Any grease/lubricant? Obviously for electronics
Thanks!

There are a few members who post daily bargains and coupons on this forum.
This one is only 2 days old so the codes should still work. (This is for Banggood from China)

As I said earlier, you will have to see if they ship cells to USA and charge low postage fees.
It works for me in Australia, and 2 packs of batteries reduces the postage to next to nothing.

Sorry I forgot to add, in case you didn’t know how these offers work, click on the link of the cell you want to buy - that will take you to the Banggood website. When you click the “Buy it now” button, you will see a box to apply the code given.
That will give you the discount price. It will tell you the shipping cost there as well to see if it’s worth your while.
They also take Paypal.

I got a small vial of YEZL lube from FT which seems to work great. Kinda waxy first taking it out of the vial, but greases up nicely on the threads.

On the Q8, though, forget the threads and WATCH THAT O-RING. It’s long and thin, and is prone to bunching up and sticking a “tongue” out when the cap’s being screwed on, and if you keep tightening it, the O-ring will get sliced through.

That’s a bigger pain than threading on the cap to begin with.

Thanks why didn’t they do a plug in port for USB charging etc?

Charging 4 cells in parallel would take forever. I wouldn’t care, but lots would want a 15min fast-charge.

wasnt it aliexpress that had dubious 30Q??

Etc?

I don’t know exactly why they didn’t include USB charging. There is a whole long thread where a lot of the Q8 design decisions were discussed if you really want to know. My guess though is that the Q8 was designed for enthusiasts by enthusiasts to be a quality SRK clone.

Most enthusiasts don’t put high value on USB charging, especially not on a specialty high-output light. Further, SRKs didn’t have built in charging, USB or otherwise. Charging would have been one more thing to work out and test, more parts on the BoM, another avenue of ingress for water and dust. It would also be another thing to make decisions about when modding.

Plus, as Lightbringer pointed out, it’d be slowww.

Just remember if you use it with 1 cell, best not use it on TURBO or high mode. You could melt a spring…… :frowning:

Also any suggestions on a lubricant for the threads-they are squeaky and its new!
and suggestions on its application?
Thanks so much! :+1:

Super Lube

If you want USB charging give a Sofirn SP36 a try. Yeah its only a 3 cell light but a pretty nice one at that. USB C charging port as well.
Its basically a mini Q8.
