Just re-tested my q8 after recalibrating my sphere with the maukka lights.
I replaced the tail pcb with a copper disc and bypassed the springs with 20ga Teflon wire, passed through the copper and soldered. I also replaced the fet with a SIRA20DP. LEDs are stock. I also added the kaidomain AR glass. Brass screws on the driver and the tail plate.
I got 5,966 lumens at start and 5,586 at 30 seconds. I’m pretty happy with the results.
Yours looks a lot cleaner though. Very nice. Makes me want to take it apart to polish it now. I did the super stiff springs that mtn offers. They’re a little skinnier diameter but heavier gauge and they got rid of the butt-bump blink.
Butt Bump Blink! I added the 2 copper crush washer discs to the original springs because of the BBB! I polished it all up after building it and then cleaned/sealed it with NO-OX-ID “A” Special.
am i the only one wishing the Q8 had some sort of lanyard point?
YES i KNOW it has the 1/4 20 STD thread point but it doesn’t include the lanyard post like the GT and quite frankly, the Q8 NEEDS one more then the GT does.
anyone up for a new tailcap with a lanyard attachment option?
I debated doing it, but the amp draw would be silly and I don’t like the color temp that it comes in while I love the Luxeon V temp/tint in my Q8 currently.
Same for me. I don’t know if I find time in this year, to swap the LEDs.
I have already made a first mod with this Emitter, as written in “What did you mod today”. Thats interesting because of the diffusor foil to avoid the donut hole.
I will order “DC-Fix Milky” the next days for forther tests. Milky is realy great for max Lumen but not so great for max Lux, as discussed in german TLF: Diffusorfolien Test | Taschenlampen Forum
Output went up a bit. By around 1,000 lumens with the Luxeon V.
If the LH351D had been out at the time I would have just put those in instead tbh. They’re cheaper, higher CRI, just as or more bright somehow. Just the best of everything.
In a Q8, the LH351D would probably be really nice. It makes a nice, even beam and it would probably make the light a little less throwy.
Or XP-L HI should look really nice too, for those who want more throw.
I like the XP-L HD 3D it comes with, but in the Q8 it has a pretty strong rainbow effect. Needs some DC-Fix or a less rainbow-prone emitter to make the beam look more consistent.
