Ok, here is a poll for the Giggle Monster Neutral White LED tint.

The choice is between :

4000k P2 LED which is the highest bin XHP70.2

or

5000k N4 bin LED which is 1 step down, about 7% lower output

I have tested both and they both work well but the 5000k is less output indeed.

I am pretty sure that 5000k is a bit more popular overall but what I am not sure about is if tint or output is more important.

This Poll is for my own curiosity more then anything, the decision at this point is in Lumintops hands, I can simply give them this link for reference.

So don’t plan on this being the deciding factor in the final tint.

They should be ordering the LED’s next week if all goes to plan.

When you say the 5000K is indeed less output, are you only able to verify this with measuring equipment or is it pretty noticeable in person?

I don’t think I’m qualified to make a decision between 4k or 5k, but I do know CW is not for me. More output would be nice of course, but I do like the color of the Q8 light (~5k?) so option 3 it is.

In the real world, it will not be that noticeable by itself but if you have 2 side by side, it will be fairly simple to tell which is brighter.

Although the tint difference will complicate things since both our eyes and lux meters see tints differently.

Personally I will be swapping to a 4000k 80CRI M4 bin LED in mine, which is 2 bins lower then the N4, because I prefer tint and CRI over output so I am not the best one to talk to about raw output. That is simply not a driving factor for me in most cases.

My recommendation is always to go with whatever tint you prefer, you will be happier long term. This is why I go for high CRI LED’s at the cost of output without a second thought.

I have regretted getting the wrong tint on a light and got rid of the light many times but never regretted the output of a light, it simply gets moved to a different use case scenario.

As anyone else you are qualified to tell your own preference with your vote, hence this poll.

Personnally, with this comparison in mind, I voted for 4000K.

Keep in mind that is a high CRI LED in the picture, the one that will come in the production lights will be a 70CRI LED. Not a big difference but things are not quite as rich looking like you would expect.

Tint is VERY relative. If you have CW lights and hold the 4000k next to them, it will look yellow. if on the other hand you are like me and have 4000k-5000k lights and then hold a CW light, it looks neon blue.

If on the other hand you just use the light with no comparison, your eyes will adjust to whatever you are using.

Like I have said, pick the tint you personally prefer over output or anything else, this will lead to you being the happiest.

It would be nice having the BLF GT, BLF GT70, and BLF GT mini all have the same temperature, so I’m voting 4000k.

I agree 100%. That’s why I voted for 4000K as well.
