Lumintop EDC 01 - AAA flashlight

In regards to the MLH mode distribution, from personal experience it’s a torch you’ll pull out for general utility, as the first light accessible with no finagling necessary. My Tool taught me to use it like it’s a big girl. Meanwhile, LMH is very useful for a pajama light or as a backup, like my old Thrunite Ti3 (though I use the Tool as a pajama torch, so yeah).

Speaking of, as far as AAA twisties go I’ll stay with my Ti3 and await a groundbreaking upgrade in the category.

I had similar experience, at first I started with a Ti3, that starts on firefly, but I got tired of double twisting for the majority of my use and then decided its best use was as a Pee Light, (nightstand)

Now I much prefer MLH for EDC, and the Lumintop Tool (not the LMH Massdrop version) and MLH Maratac are favorites.

Ive also come to appreciate the Oligh UI, with memory. I can set 0.5 lumens for nightstand use, and then set other brighter modes for EDC during the day, and evening. If only they were Nichia compatible…

no perfect light, which is why we have more than one

Yep, I EDC the Tool too and found that Mid right off the bat makes it a quick and easy pick for ED tasks instead of always twisting twice like the Ti3, which I always treated as a backup if my main light ever went dead (wanna extend runtime as much as physically possible if that happens). My ideal torch would be a LMH Tool with mode memory like the AA Tool 2.0 promises to be; if it has no memory, Mid from the get-go is great.

Also yeah, so we can only keep buying in search of the perfect one :stuck_out_tongue:

Hmm… The short head suggests it’s built like the Olight i3E.
LED on the driver PCB, no pill.
So it should be cheap, right?

Hmmm… This seems unlikely:

A reflector plus a pebbled lens??
Why not a TIR?
I suspect it is a TIR.

My guess is that it is a small TIR optic.
I’ve been using them in some AA flashlights and the beam gets improved in all of them

EDIT: maybe d_t_a can tell us more about it

The previous EDC01 shown is from a friend’s.

I’ve just gotten a “warm-white” (Nichia 219C) EDC01, which looks like below:

Thanks d_t_a, it is confirmed to be a TIR!
That image, Jerommel, it seems to be a bit misleading :confounded:
Someone thought about a new concept there

Massdrop is offering the flashlight , the drop will end on Sept 9 Lumintop EDC 01

So it’s not a reflector, it’s actually the pill.

Hum, I guess someone put a reflector there, it doesn’t seem much like a pill :stuck_out_tongue:
If you look at the picture, the reflector seems oversized to if the head and seems hollow !
Well, it was some kind of invention

I’m guessing it was a miscommunication between engineering and marketing

Looks like those “clickbait” youtube videos where you see one image as thumbnail and then you pass the entire video seeking for it but it’s never there

Hi Paul, Thanks, I ordered (joined Drop?) for two of the EDC 01. For the price it looks good. I am not sure I understand “Massdrop.??
Regards, Jerry

Presumably it’s a batch customized exclusively for Massdrop.

I wish they mentioned the mode order. The EDC01 standard order is M/L/H, but many of the Lumintop lights from Massdrop have been customized to L/M/H (which I desire). The lack of clarification is leaving me on the fence :frowning:

The light being sold on Massdrop doesn’t seem to be a Massdrop special edition, so probably it will be the regular UI.
But let’s see what they say in the discussions!! :+1:

A while back I bought a set of the Seasons ones, all with the warm Nichia option.

They are lovely little lights!

Love this cute little light. I have had the Lumintop Tool AAA for 3 years now and I have started to realise the beauty of starting with Medium. You get a usable amount of light right away. However, I run mine exclusively on 10440s so Low is more than enough, usually

Lumintop is really putting a lot of thought into their packaging!

TIR is the best choice for lights like this i.m.o, especially pebbled ones.
Cheaper too. Shorter and less weight also.

Nice threaded pill it has.
I may want a copper version, if they make one in the future.

And the low and medium modes, visible PWM, or at last a better driver than tool and worm?
