(prototype) the GT Mini

Nothing wrong with having optionsā€¦but why pick this over the beautiful Emisar D1s with similar specs and size. It currently sells for 35$

Why choose anything? A lot of people think the GT Mini looks much nicer and also looks cute because itā€™s a miniature version of the big GT.

As itā€™s been said many times before, the performance is very similar between the two so itā€™s mainly just a matter of personal preference.

Yeah, I personally prefer the Mini GT.

Itā€™s got a more featured out of the box UI, looks nicer, and doesnā€™t feature a trashcan feature of reverse polarity protection.

It also seems to have a better, more pleasant finish, and for some people, being able to use protected cells is nice.

And, unrelated a bit, I can pay for it directly in $CA, meaning I donā€™t get dinged for a 2.5% US dollar conversion on it since I can buy it on Banggood.

Youā€™ll thought the Mini GTs sat in china and took too long to get to the statesā€”check this tracking history outā€”I made a purchase from IMR batteries (theyā€™re in Houston) Iā€™m in Baton Rouge ā€” 1 1/2 weeks of waiting and this is what I seeā€”ā€” Crazyā€”-It might end up in China before itā€™s over with

Two strap wrenches, and I finally got the bezel off mine. Got all the loctite out of the threads, and the bezel comes off smooth now. Button is seemingly working fine now too.

After all that effort of course the button would work :person_facepalming:

Lets just hope it stays working.

I think the fires in California, volcanic eruptions in Hawaii, & the possibility that the Super Volcano in Yellowstone may erupt had a direct impact upon this. :open_mouth: ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦

Congrats to the Tigers on a W tonight too.
Looking forward to our 3 November meeting in ā€™Deaf Death Valleyā€™
As most times, it should be a good one.

For me the reason to pick GT Mini is the shorty variant.

For sure. Got my shorty tube earlier this week and it looks so funny.

yes i maybe regret this option now, i chose the mini of style as it appealed more to me thenā€¦

The D1S also has a 18350 tube Iā€™m pretty sure. The same as the D4 shorty tube.

Nope, the 18650 tubes are different and thereā€™s no 18350 for D1S.

I donā€™t think a shorty tube has been offered with the D1S

The D1S has a deeper thread at the tube to head connection. It can use the short tube of the D4 IF the user makes some adjustments. There are copper crush washers that come in handy in times like these, Kawiboy found them to work very nicely and I too have found them to be useful. Occasionally one fits without adjustment, other times some filing or sanding may be necessary. But at any rate the copper washer works as a spacer between the driver ground ring and the battery tube to allow the short tube to make contact.

Hello, this is my first post on BudgetLightForums and a week ago I got my GT Mini in the mail from Neal. I noticed that the backlight button is weirdly backlit, not like other GT Miniā€™s, and at some times its very unresponsive, one time I couldnā€™t turn the light off for 2 minutes because the button wonā€™t do anything. I hope the button will break in with use and work normally. Here are some links to pictures of the backlight button:

EDIT:

Hereā€™s the video, you can see sometimes the problem occuring. https://photos.app.goo.gl/sAGa9NQv8kmXNQGi7

all gt minis are backlit like that, mine looks more or less the same like yours. Its clearly that there is an issue with the buttons sadly on some lights. But if u have on a brand new light already a button thats unresponsive i dont think it will get better overtime, mine worked perfect for almost a month then suddenly one day unresponsiveā€¦

I hope they will cover us that has issues with this, its clearly something that should go under warranty and i mean 40$ i expected better quality overallā€¦

Sometimes when I try to turn on the light it recognizes one click as two and goes straight to turbo or recognizes 3 clicks and goes to battery check mode, that is frustrating, but overall I like this light.

Yes same problem i have, the light is useless as its defective that way since its a gamble when it will turn on or off or even go turbo no matter if u click ten times not normal behaviour, send Neal a mail and ask for replacement head or something. Even if its just a few under 10 people so far out of 3-400 users its still not fun for the few of use that got the a defective light either at once or after a months useā€¦

Thanks! Iā€™ve sent him an email stating the switch issue.
