Sofirn Q8 group buy (gb closed, but try PM to Sofirn for discount)

Ordered with Aliexpress, thanks djozz

I change the bore on centering rings all the time, no sweat there. Was figuring on either the LH351D or maybe SST-40’s. I don’t usually worry about changing battery carriers around and such, if I wanted to use 6V emitters I’d simply stack 18350’s in there and have at it.

Might actually simply flash Anduril and leave it be, or put in the 80CRI 5000K LH351D’s for color. I’ve got all kinds of max power lights, after all. lol

Is it too late to get GB price?

No, just follow the instructions and tell us which store you would like to buy from.

Just noticed another difference with the BLF Q8, when removing battery contact, the switch led fades out instead of stopping immediately. The light must have battery contact for half a minute to show this. There must be some capacitance somewhere that is not in the BLF-Q8. Time to look at the driver (but not today).

Sound like BUMP PROTECTION, industry breakthrough!! /s

It’s on its way

Arrived awaiting clearance (Inbound)
SYDNEY NSW

I purchased a 2nd set of VTC6 in anticipation of delivery. My 1st set of VTC6 for BLF Q8 are charged and ready for side by side comparison.

Looks like you’ll be the second person here to receive the Sofirn Q8.
My order, as of last tracking update yesterday, is still in GuangZhou, “air transport” (ie. just about to leave China).

Regarding the Sofirn Q8, did they still use NarsilM v1.0? Or have they updated to at least NarsilM v1.2?
Strobe modes (not that I use them much though) are a lot more difficult to use on NarsilM v1.0.

They updated it to V1.2.

First it’s gotta get processed and then get to Melbourne. Could be another week :frowning: My 2nd BLF A6 arrived with Australia Post awaiting clearance in melb on 5th Sept but light only arrived yesterday.

Thanks, I should’ve read the OP straight through before posting. I want to buy from Amazon in the US.

djozz, do you have measurement of standby current? Thanks.

I recently received some Q8 drivers. They had a tantalum capacitor stacked on top of what appeared to be the original stock capacitor at C2. C2 is attached to the trace that powers the MCU. That might account for the new behavior you noted. I didn't get a chance to see how the drivers behaved because I modded them for 2S and 4S cells and also reflashed their MCU's before I even used them.

It should be the same as the original Q8.

135 micro amps switch led on
22 micro amps switch led off

Thanks.
I was thinking the driver might be different from BLF Q8.

The only difference should be the newer firmware. That should not effect the parasitic drain. It may have an added capacitor to make it more bump resistant.

Maybe someone can double check that the parasitic drain hasn’t increased. Only a couple people have them so far.

If anyone wants to check, here is how you do it.

You can temporarily deactivate the switch light by turning it on then ramp up or down and turn the light off very quickly.

YMMV, but I’ve seen meters show different values when the probes are inverted as they are in that picture. It can’t be an inverse drain, so of course the probes are on the wrong ends.
