(prototype) the GT Mini

Try a lux test. See how many candela it’s putting out. If it’s well below spec, then there might be something adding resistance to your light. I would check both ends of your battery tube to make sure you have nice clean bare contacts. Remove any oil or dirt. If no change, I guess you would need to bypass the driver spring. ¯\

The jump from top of the ramp to turbo looks quite small. It’s 500 lumen, though.

Seems odd to see a relative noob giving build advise to an advanced veteran…

I was more looking for what route to take CS wise with this, I’m sure I could open it up and make it perform. Should I even bother trying to mod it just to get it up to spec, should I have to? Maybe I asked the wrong thing at first: Did I just assume wrong and I got what I paid for (I was under the impression 5.5A and ~140kcd were stock numbers), did I get what everyone else received or is my sample defective?

Addendum I’m decided, now that the indicator LED is no longer working its time to email BG. Really bummed :rage: I have the worst luck buying new lights recently, I should stick to builds but hey at least the ZL I got last Friday is just perfect!

Not really. I’ll help anyone out if I can regardless of their experience level. It’s just basic info and troubleshooting. Nothing very advanced. It’s not like these lights are rocket science.

So, guys and gals, I received my GT Mini a few hours ago, and it’s been marvelous. Haven’t measured lumen output yet, but looks to be around 1200-1300 lumens compared to my Astrolux C8, along quite a bit more throw, and way better color temp at 4000k. It’s also so tiny!

And it uses NarsilM, and it’s awesome.

One thing I do not like though is how its ramping is actually slower than the BLF Q8 and Haikelite MT09R.

Is there a reason to this specifically? This is a strange behavior. I wonder if the MCU is actually legit or not, or a copy which works exactly the same except it doesn’t fully support ramping, or rather, a slower one.

How much difference did you see between your Q8 and the GT mini? - I just checked mine and they are within 0.02 seconds of each other and that is just measurement error.

Several people got similar results to my own in both the amp draw and candela. (5+amps and 135kcd+)

Here is a review where they got results similar to yours with 3.4A and only 107kcd. So I guess they vary a bit? I don’t really know. We need more people to test things so we have a better consensus.

I was recommending to measure the Candela (and lumens if possible) just in case the light is performing as normal even though your amp draw was less than mine.

It shouldn’t be noticeably slower. There are several videos of the GT mini online. Maybe you can compare yours to the ones in the video. I think it should be about 3 seconds from top to bottom.

The original MT09R driver had a much slower ramp than Narsil, like 5 seconds. I’m assuming you have a newer driver that is running narsil.

I did get to measure candela, it’s 105kcd so that review seems to be right on with my sample. I have a light box but it’s not remotely calibrated so no way to measure lumens.

To have mines specs posted together incase of future searches.
Neutral white, 30Q, 3.35A, 105kcd

which values did you get on full ramp vs. turbo?

I just checked the ramping for D4, D4S, GTMini and BLF Q8 just now. They all work practically the same in terms of speed. Up and down. The differences are very minimal.

I’m not sure if I’m doing anything wrong, but yes there seem to be relatively significant variance between samples ( I have tested a GT Mini NW and a CW). Using a UT210E meter and a short piece of copper wire and a VTC6, I get around 5.8amps with the GT Mini NW, but only 4.5amps with the GT Mini CW).

GT Mini CW on the left ; GT Mini NW on the right (both on max Turbo and both using fully-charged batteries)
not sure if you can notice the NW seems a bit clearer…

The ramp speed, bottom to top or top to bottom; for my Q8 & Mini GT are about the same. The Q8 is slightly quicker at just under 3 seconds. Mini GT is about 3 seconds.even.

OK guys.

I just discovered the reason why it is a bit slower.

It’s not only because it’s a tiny bit slower, but also because the switch is hard to activate, meaning it takes more time to push.

It’s actually just a bit slower, and it doesn’t bother me.

I find the ramping not much slower then Q8, its alot slower in Haikelites lights for sure…

Gotta put Anduril on there for the configurable ramp!

How do you like the GT Mini NW vs. the Sofirn C8A? I’d prefer to have a side switch + ramping mode, but at 2x the price of the C8A (or C8T) it’s tough to justify.

The C8T is the one with the XPL-HI. It gets close to the output of the GT Mini, but it’s reflector is smaller so it won’t reach as far as the Mini. You probably can’t see the difference with your eyes anyway.

The Sofirn C8T is only NW, so I assume you are okay with that.

You do lose the nice features of ramping, battery check, etc…

If you need a small thrower, money is tight, you don’t need the fancy features, the Sofirn C8T or Astrolux C8 with XPL-HI seem like good alternatives.

Anybody having issues with their light not coming on I got two lights one works fine the other the green button light blinks 3 times and stays on but the light doesn’t work.Working GT Mini - YouTube Non working GT Mini - YouTube
I posted two videos so you can see the difference not sure if anyone else has had this exact problem.
