Sofirn Q8 group buy (gb closed, but try PM to Sofirn for discount)

Yes, NarsilM v1.2 has the same bug as NarsilM v1.0.

Just to clarify, the Emisar lights use RampingIOS which has the memory bug fixed. The ROT66 and Q8 use NarsilM and do have the bug.

When you make a change in the settings and then disconnect the battery power there’s a small chance it may not remember the change. It’s more likely to remember if the light is turned on and off a few times before disconnecting the battery power.

It’s not that big a deal, really. I also would not call it a mistake. Upgrading to v1.2 has a couple of extra features, but that’s all. It’s still the same basic, good working UI that everyone likes. I thought this would be a good time to update the firmware, but they kind of sprung this new version on us at the last minute. I don’t think they asked any forum members about the tint or about using the HI version emitter. I wish they had, we could have made some updates before these 400 units were made.

Changing to v1.2 in the middle of production should be no big deal. Everything works the same in both versions except for some extra features that v1.2 has.

@ToyKeeper Thank you very much for clearing thing up. It is late night for me so I would write more in next days.
You used the word ‘probably’. Are you sure that the problem is gone? Do you have ability to compile and flash firmwares to Q8? Or the other mentioned flashlights? Have you tried to test your solution and ex. added delay(10000) to the interrupt/(s) and see if you also got the memory bug after make what Hank made and cut the power?
BTW. Does is it possible to flash the MCU on the board with a test clip in these flashlights?
Once again: thank you for the previous answer.

If the firmware was easy to change for a standard user, it would be ok. But when most user have never flashed AVRs and don’t have the hardware to do that, the producer should take care about that. I am sure that majority of people who already bought this flashlight on Ali are disappointed.

@JasonWW Thank you also for your post. Now I know everything about this  I am very surprised how pleasant you are.
And I am sorry but I don’t know English enough to type so quick as you.

I never saw it happen, personally. But people who were reliably able to reproduce the issue tested before and after, and confirmed it no longer happens.

If a new version is made, it of course isn’t tested yet because it hasn’t been made yet. But the patch linked earlier has been tested, and shouldn’t be much different when applied to a newer version of the code.

I doubt it. It’s the same firmware and virtually the same hardware as the BLF Q8, and the Q8 is one of the best-reviewed products on sites which sell it. For example, on Banggood, the reviews are:

  • 5 stars: 343 reviews
  • 4 stars: 1 review
  • 3 stars: 0
  • 2 stars: 0
  • 1 star: 0

Unanimous 5-star ratings except for one person. And that’s with NarsilM 1.0. This version should be even better, since it’s getting updated.

I know what is there. I am afraid that I won’t be the person who doesn’t know that something is imposible anymore. I hope you know what I mean.

Sounds reasonable. Even the reason you found seems to be so obvious. But if I were you I would be testing it to be 100% sure. Even by disabling interrupts at all and enable them one by one.

BTW. Why your patch wasn’t included to the main version?

Please don’t believe in these comments. I wrote almost 200 and only comments with 5 stars were allowed. I didn’t see any of my <4 comments on Banggood. Once I was so angry for one item that I decided to gave it 5 stars, wrote a perfect review and upload 6 photos and on one wrote the warning. The comment a week later was gone.

But we are on the same side. I probably used a shortcut in my thoughts. For me Q8 is one of the best flashlight. Before Lumintop ODF30C, Q8 was my favourite toy.

I wrote it from my point of view.
If I order a flashlight from Sofirm now, I will get the copy of my Q8.
But for weeks there was a huge hype and I also was one of the first persons who want to buy that updated flashlight.
And they could do anything… This light uses four 18650 batteries. Is this so hard for Sofirn to project a small charger inside?
Let’s dream… Q8 v2, Andúril v2 :), USB port inside a tail cap with 4x2A charger, 99.9 CRI…

QX³, if you build it they will come…

!

They are working on Q8 v1.5 here.

NarsilM 1.2 was released last year. No one noticed it had a memory issue until a few weeks ago.

It was not supposed to have a charger. The goal of this light was to make a throwy cool white version of the Q8, and it succeeds at that goal.

Additionally, many people consider built-in charging to be a downgrade. It adds cost, complexity, bulk, and waterproofing issues, for a result which is usually not as good as standalone chargers. However, perhaps someday there could be a mass-market version with a charge port, a simpler interface, and lower output.

Sofirn can do these step by step. Now we are working on SP36 with 3*18650 battery tube, 5V 2A USB-C charging port, NarsilM V1.2, output could be max 6000LM. While, many

people like high CRI led, we are going to choose one model to use that led, not decided yet. But with higher price, I don’t know how popular it will be in the market.

Tracy

Packages sent to FBA warehouse arrived in Charlotte. Don’t know how severe the hurricane is in Charlotte. I think that’s why Q8 sent to Germany is available yesterday but not yet in amazon.com :frowning:

Hope it will be available soon in US.

I agree, charging port on multi cell lights not best option.
But just a 4000k variant could be easy to do,that benefit for seller sales and for who no like cold light, hope to see that like Convoy do it from years (up to 4 free choises led tint)

Wow… What that SP36 look can you show us the picture ?

I have a prototype picture and it looks very nice but I’m not sure if Sofirn wants it posted?

I see ,@Sofirn what do you thinks about this ?

It's finally moving after seven days from my order. Delay could be recent typhoon in HK and GZ area.

The Sofirn Q8 is & was to be a CW version of the TF Q8. Mission Accomplished.

Firmware is just fine.

A USB Charging port is not desired by the majority of people. It adds unnecessary cost, is something else to go wrong, & a place for water to leak inside.
In reality just ’Bells & Whistles’ that serve no real purpose & are not desirable to most.

Agreeeeeeeed

Sooo… the Q8 is listed as “in stock” on Amazon Germany

Sold by “77 Outdoor” - is that Sofirn in Germany?

Yes that’s Sofirn at Amazon Germany

Partially agree. I would like to see something where the battery carrier has the charge port. So the carrier (with multiple batteries) could be popped out and plugged in. When done charging, pop the carrier back in and close the cap. No extra ports to potentially leak, no reason to pop the individual batteries in/out of a carrier/etc.
