I’m not sure if this is a light I’m really going to want, but with Fireflies’ unique design, Lexel’s auxiliary LED board, and ToyKeeper’s firmware it’s definitely going to be interesting.
This picket-clip looks like the generic one coming with every mateminco/astrolux/BLF 18650 tube flashlights.
They should go with a more dedicated-to-this-model pocket-clip or with this generic pocket-clip but with a little rework.
I’m fed up with this pocket-clip-catching-in-its-wrong-spot the pocket because the bent part is too short…
I want to add another comment calling for a better clip in the hope Fireflies will notice. It looks like the PL47 is going to be a really nice light – it deserves a better clip.
Tally-ho explained the problem with the clip show on the prototypes well, and ToyKeeper’s suggestion of an Olight-style clip is a good one.
I also hope there’s the option to have a nice strong magnet in the tail cap. I know not everyone is a fan of magnets, but if it was an optiona extra I’d be happy.

When you pull the flashlight down in your pocket, the edge of the pocket is going right here :
Instead of here, if it has a longer bent part (in red) :
There are occasions when I want the clip in front of the light. And only the head pokes out.
E.g. I want to wear it in the front pocket of a light shirt. When the clip is on the back the light looks downward. On the front it has more suspension.
If the distance of notch1 and notch2 is as big as the head diameter a) you can make a deep carry clip too.

I use a H03 as my winter EDC and I don’t carry the headband with me.
When I need a hands free light for few minutes I clip it in front of my collar. That is mostly enough with a floddy light although it is looking down.

Or, even better, use an Olight-style clip which doesn’t have that problem:
Or a Manker style clip.

Like this, so the flashlight is actually inside your pocket instead of dangling outside.
++ “even better, use an Olight-style clip which doesn’t have that problem”
Ditto. Olight clips are very well designed, I wish I could buy them separately.
I have contacted Olight in the past and ordered just the clips. About $5 a piece if I remember correctly. Didn’t find them on their site so I just emailed them and they took my info and shipped them. Might try that if you know which ones you want. This was a while back so not sure if they still do that.
Location: (469219) 2016 HO3 // I get way more privmsgs than I can respond to, so please ask in a public thread if possible, for a faster answer.
I have some info. The design isn’t set in stone yet, and I hear Fireflies is still doing changes to the host and the clip and maybe some other things. But here are some random observations so far:
It’s a right-angle light.
Mine has 4 × 219B emitters, so the tint and beam are very nice.
It’s about 88 mm long, 24 mm across the body tube, 26.5 mm across the tailcap, or about 40 mm deep at the head.
It seems quite heavy for a headlamp, but I don’t have a headlamp holder which fits it so I haven’t actually tried to wear it.
The battery is a 21700.
The driver is a FET+3 with a tiny85, much like the Emisar D4S. It runs Anduril, but I still need to get a few things working.
It has 12 blue aux LEDs and 2 red aux LEDs under the optic. It changes from blue to red at 3.3V, and turns off below 3.0V. Otherwise, these aux LEDs are always on. I’m hoping it can be connected to a dedicated pin on the MCU, so the user can turn it on and off. There is a pad on the driver labelled “aux” with nothing connected, so it seems likely.
It also has aux LEDs around the button, but they’re not visible in my prototype. Like the ROT66, it seems to have two blue LEDs which are always on, and two which might be controllable, but on my sample the latter two never turn on. That’s probably something for me to fix.
The tail PCB and driver PCB are at extreme opposite ends of the light, with a cell between. The emitters and optics are off to the side at 90 degrees. The switch PCB is directly on top of the driver.
The body tube’s threads go rather deep into the head, so it takes a while to unscrew the tube. It seems to also double as a retaining ring for the driver, like how the Emisar D4 is designed… so it’s recommended that you leave the body tube tightened.
The button is recessed just far enough to be flush with the edge of the light.
I’m not sure how the head is held together, but it looks like the entry points are the lens retaining ring and the button retaining ring… which both look like they might be press-fit. It may be difficult to do emitter or driver mods. However, the driver has Lexel’s flashing pads, so the firmware can be probably changed without removing anything. (“probably” because it’s 2cm deep in a hole, and I’m not sure how deep the pogo pins can reach)
There is a magnet in the tailcap, and it is strong enough to attach the light to solid metal surfaces.
Sorry this is all pretty disorganized. I haven’t had a chance to really work on it yet.
Interested.

Can we have a second notch for the clip, please?

Many fans of an L-shaped lamp mount also magnets on the clip.

Maybe you want include one plus shrink-wrap as accessory?
The Nitcore HC30 can do the front clip trick too.
I’m interested.

Interested, hopefully it’ll be cheaper than the ROT66.
What a great practical advice!

I like the way that clip drawing looks. Make the light truly practical and it’s sure to appeal to a lot more people.

Or a Manker style clip.

Problem with the Manker style is it will leave a weird edge of you remove it. It’s also more expensive to make.

I’m down with the Skilhunt clip.

I’m happy as long as the clip remains removable and it doesn’t add any weird bumps like the Manker one does.
Interested. Hoping for a 4000k or warmer color temperature option.
