Could we get some clarification on the Triple Ti Dawn Clips:

Is a screw-on Ti clip included with each light?

If included, does the clip match the ordered body finish (machined, stone washed, bead blasted , anodized)?

How do we order flamed, anodized, Mokume and/or Damascus clips, and can we order a light now and then add a clip or clips to our order when details are finalized?

When you say “compatible with SF clips”, do you mean Solarforce T1, or how about Oveready 1.0 (https://www.oveready.com/flashlights/accessories/clip-store/)?

Yes, screwed on clip. Included. Clip matches the flashlight body. Flamed or Ano’d clip will cost a few extra $. You can pre-order the light now, and decide on the clip later.

This looks like a nice upgrade from the original. I have an original that I bought as an empty host, then configured how I like — Nichia 219B ~4700K 92CRI and a FET+1 driver with lots of extra modes. I keep it in 18350 shorty form. It’s still one of my favorites, years later.

Ish. I wouldn’t really trust Bistro’s thermal regulation here. It works okay-ish in a BLF X6v2, which has lower power and higher thermal mass, but it was never meant to handle a triple in titanium.

I love that pattern on the left, with the blue and magenta blend. I hope I can get something like that some day. :slight_smile:

The H17F has some downsides:

  • Increases the cost per light. For legal reasons, the hardware cannot be mass-produced and there is a license fee for each unit.
  • The code cannot be modified for this project.
  • Its thermal regulation is very slow, probably too slow for a titanium triple. However, this is probably also true for Bistro.
  • Configuring the light is even more complicated than the current driver.
  • Can’t do med-press, so no reversing.

My main concern with both drivers is the slow thermal regulation. I improved that quite a bit in Crescendo, and again in Anduril, but this isn’t the type of light which can run Anduril.

Crescendo could work, but it’s a little awkward and I’d at least want to update it first. Also, it doesn’t have regular modes or mode groups, which can be considered a drawback. Instead, it has ramping only… and some misc blinkies. Ramping on a clicky is kind of neat, but also kind of awkward. For example, with memory disabled, each use must ramp up from moon. Or with memory enabled, there is a delay before going to the memorized level.

Of course, the user can just be careful to avoid overheating when using the light. That works too, and is a good idea regardless.

FWIW, here are the main two interfaces I have which could run on this light. They’re very different from each other:

The more I look at it, the more I want Crescendo on my light. Is that possible? Can I order it that way?

Have you ever tried it? Ramping is awkward on a clicky. I’d recommend trying it first.

In some ways it’s a lot simpler, because it doesn’t need any of the complexities of modes and mode groups. But it’s not necessarily better overall. There are good reasons for both styles.

If you have an e-switch light with ramping, like a Q8 or an Emisar, you may be able to get sort of a feel for how Crescendo works. Try using only hold-from-off on that light, so every time you turn it on you have to start from the bottom of the ramp. It works, but it’s kind of annoying. Or use only click-for-mem, with ramp-up and ramp-down, but never using hold-from-off. Because with a clicky switch, you can’t really have both… it’s one or the other, mostly. And with memory, there’s a delay before it goes to the memorized level.

Mostly, using Crescendo in its recommended configuration, it means that every time the light turns on, it goes “click, wait, tap”. Then if it’s on for a while, maybe “tap, wait tap” to get brighter or “tap-tap, wait, tap” to get dimmer, or “tap-tap-tap, wait, tap” for a quick burst of turbo. But output levels and runtimes are different every time it’s used. And if you’re not quick, it’s easy to overshoot the desired level or press too long so it resets to moon.

With memory enabled, I find it even more awkward. Going to the last-used level is easy… just click, then wait about a third of a second until it goes to the right level. But if I want to choose a new level, ramping up from the bottom, it’s a lot less convenient — click-tap, wait, tap, wait, tap to pick a new level. (double-tap to go to moon, wait for the input timeout, tap to ramp up, wait, tap to stop)

With all due respect to ToyKeeper’s work on Crescendo, as it is a great firmware, I wouldn’t recommend it ! I also thought it would be like ramping an Emisar but it is not, and as she said above, it may be awkward!

I have it on my Lumintoop Tool AA and barely use it due to the way it operates.

Take a look the guppy3drv FW, installed in some drivers from MTN. I guess it will suit this flashlight better! But this is just an opinion :wink:

One thing I like in Crescendo, though, is the simple way it operates, but then the action sometimes get tricky and from a slight stronger click you get strobe instead of turbo!

I was looking at it from the standpoint of having instant access to Moon, Turbo, and the last used level (assuming memory mode) and still having the ability to set any level in between.

Where do I get a light with it installed to give it a test drive? (I don’t have any of the flashing equip.)

Any chance of seeing a head with Tritium vials installed?

Definitely considering a stonewashed with 9 holes/Trites in the head. Just guessing 15 might be a bit to busy.

Looks like a great semi custom light. Could definitely see carrying this a lot in 18350 configuration.

Now off to find some decent 18350’s……….

MtnElectronics sells drivers with Crescendo, and also sells the rest of the parts needed to build a light. Basically, get parts for a Convoy S2+ plus a driver, and put them together.

Or most modders on BLF could make it, if you don’t want to solder the parts together. It’s a very easy build, as far as these things go.

That sounds like the switch might be faulty or noisy, triggering more than once in a single tap.

Overall though, I agree, it’s a very different experience than the ramping e-switch lights which have been popular lately. Bistro is a safer UI choice, as long as the user regulates heat manually.

Is glow-in-the-dark gasket green?
If yes, does it bleed into any part of beam pattern? Specifically asking about Nichia 219C version.
Can gasket be black or white to avoid any beam tint discoloration?

Either green or blue gasket. It can be removed very easily, one or 2 mins will do it.

How do you get such vivid and complex colors?

The dark grey ones look good too, and would probably look even better and better as they age.
