GB Clone Offically "SOLD OUT" 10/21/18 XPL HI 1300LM Focusing AKA Cometa 2016

The 2016 is nice disguise, both my wife and daughter thought they’re are not newly bought. Success!!!

too funny!

It was the Warsun X65 (right) I had to black out, the Cometa (left) is nicely done from new:

Just out of interest, left to right, Warsun X50 XML, Warsun X65 de-domed XPG2, Cometa XPL HI and UF-1504 de-domed XPG2. Apologies for the bad photo, take on my phone and they are not all at the same brightness.

Not sure how well it will cope with the heat yet. Someone on eBay UK sells 10ml bottles for £2.25 plus shipping, so I thought I’d try it.

I have a noob question. What happens if I paint the inside of the head white or chrome instead of black? I want to mod one to use 4xE21A to be used mainly in flood mode for picture taking.

Painting the inside white will add a bit to the flood, and it will make the spot setting really ugly (but just as bright of course)

Artifacts.
Even glossy black makes weird artifacts in zoomies.
This one is flat black to avoid this, and get a clean beam

I get mine today, my first light with Bistro UI.
Really nice host (except for the sketchy markings), but I’m surprise that the lens is smaller than on my B158B.

Get today with 26650 cell
Head threads are loose and not resistance during rotation, maybe miss O-ring need to check.
Package is marked 2016-07 I hope also the battery (3.6V) will not 2 year old.

There is no o-ring under the sliding part of the head, which would have been nice in the design to stabilise the head and provide some extra waterproofing. But they did not do that.
A two-year old li-ion battery, if stored at 3.6V, should be perfectly fine.

What you think about this Cell and how much Volt was at the first?
About the Lens usefull Area looks smaller than expect.

My cells were 3.45V if I remember well, fine voltage for storing. The cells seem fine, I measured both around 5500 mAh, which is a great capacity. They can draw quite some current but are not the highest current cells around, they say.

The size of the lens compared to the head size is not maximal, but that is a design choice: for every zoomie you need to extend the bezel to protect the lens, and that bezel in principle blocks sideways light in flood modus. Jaxman (=original design of Cometta) chose a wider bezel/narrower lens to aid the beam angle in flood, other manufacturers choose a maximal diameter lens (for their given bezel diameter) for highest brightness in spot modus but the flood is pretty narrow.

Thanks for explain.
I don’t recognize if this Vappower it’s just a Rebranded Japan/Korean cell,
or it’s a full Chinese manufactured,

I’ve dropped some differents LEDs in mine…
Tried a sliced SST20 but got too much artifacts (due to my crude method of slicing), an untoched SST20 and finally an LH351D with the dome.
I kept the latter for it gives a nearly round beam when zoomed in, with a great CRI so it shows more things.
Zoomed out it makes a really good fill light for video/photo

Received mine today, 18 days from china to france with standard shipping (without tracking)…not to shabby.
I don’t like zoomie generally but at this price with a 26650 included + a lighted tailcap, it would have been silly to not jump on this bargain !

LOL

Why haven’t I thought about this ???!!! :+1:

Meh, it’s not ideal, with its sharp cut off at the edge and the tint shift you get with zoomed out aspherics (or with bare LEDs).
Good wide angle frosted TIR optics would be better.

Oh, hey, yeah, i got mine today too !!
Battery inside.
Best BG deal ever?
Could well be. :+1:

The light is made of nice parts. :+1:

The head is not as loose as i expected. Pity they chose to not use an O-ring, it’s not even possible with that battery tube front end with those ‘fins’ (grooves) to do that yourself.
Maybe i’ll think of something eventually or just live with it.

The lens looks nice. But it seems only AR coated on the convex (front) side. But that’s where it is the most important.
It has a tiny dimple on the front in the centre though… :weary:
> Anyone else have that too?

I don’t like the DD ‘driver’ and the XP-L HI though.

Not sure what LED to put in it…
I have 1 good old 2014 pinkish tinted XP-G2 left to dedome. The other one is in my B158.
I also have some later high Vf cool white ones.
Not sure about the driver choice yet either.

I haven’t even tested the light, it’s in pieces already…
Disassemble, reassemble, try.

Yeah, there is too little space between the switch and the switch boot too. No big deal.

Left : Cometa LH351D
Right : B158B SST20 sliced

@X3
Do they have the same lens size? Would be interesting to see the same emitter in both lights to see the difference between the lights itself.
Can someone give me the exact head diameter? Want to order a dust cap from KD (or comes the Cometa with cap like the Z1).
I should have bought a second one for this price. With the new powerfull UV leds it would have been fun to build a UV thrower.

Just tested with 365nm UV, the lens let it pass
Also, just measured the head : 53mm in diameter.
I tried a sliced SST20 in my Cometa, the beam is less tight than with the larger headed B158B
