Can just any old charger be used to charge up 14500s? Can, for instance, an AA charger bought at any given store be used?
14500 are not Ni-HM or Ni-Cd so it won't work. You need a 18650 charger, more precisely a Li-ion charger, for 4.2V full charge cells.
Don't even try it. It could lead to fire and/or injury.
