GB Clone Offically "SOLD OUT" 10/21/18 XPL HI 1300LM Focusing AKA Cometa 2016

Okay, i just had a good look, and i see it does press down on the MCPCB.
Sorry, i guess i hadn’t looked well enough earlier.

People, it is a completely sh(it) torch, in almost every way possible.

You may think that you are getting a bargain, that just needs a little bit of fixing up, but really you are not.

Waste your time if you must. You still could have the real deal instead.

I sympathise with Banggood, they got lumbered with a huge pile of these useless dangerous things, because nobody there (Neal, CPF It, or whoever) had their eye on the ball. Or just on venality.

The unsold stock all got sent back to Manker for re-work, but that was also incompetent.

At the end of the day, Manker made them, it is almost laughable how badly they did it. They tried to rip-off the Jaxman Z1 but utterly failed in every important area. They even scammed Jaxman into providing a hundred or so of their excellent aspheric lenses, for the first bunch. Quite what is fitted now is a mystery to me.

No wonder Jaxman was fizzing. I could tell you about the treachery, lying, deceit, and the cowardice of senior CPF It. personnel, but you probably wouldn’t believe it, it was so bad.

Anyway, snap these up if you must, there are plenty left in the UK warehouse (that is also the EU warehouse.)

Then feel a bit dirty about what you have just done.

Oh, and that stupid 2016 logo is making look aged very fast. Which it is.

Banggood, clean out the decks (I think you already are). Then put this behind you. Better still, just find a recycler who will take them away for scrap.

Well, of course you can put it this way. Still, I assume this flashlight can be a bargain for those who know what they are dealing with. The only worries I currently have are that I may be overlooking something I should take care of when disassembling the Cometa and doin' some kind of "check and rectify".

So far, I noted following potential hazardous areas that might cause shorts:

  • solder joints on LED aluminum board (potential for bad solder jobs)
  • sharp edges on the pill that might damage the insulation of wires
  • insulation disc on the rear side of the pill is crucial as the outer rim of the pill might cause shorts when in contact with the positive pole of the battery

Should there be anything else to be taken care of, I'll be glad to hear about it.

Grumpy day again, TT?

The Cometa group buy is long past, there’s old stock left that BG want to get rid of, and they found the right price to find enthousiasts for them (I think it is a good deal for what it is too btw). You can revive all the old pain and frustration, but AFAIC that is coupled to what happened back in the days and not to the current clearing of some old stock.

@Tom Tom
You said its not a bargain. If you are not able to fix the flaws i have to say you are right!
But if you can fix it by yourself its for sure a bargain. The only thing i really think its a design flaw is the zoom thread that is having way to much slack.
But everything else is a easy fix.
And regarding the 2016 logo. I believe everyone would prefer the light without the logo (except DENGOH  )!

No.
The parts are quite nice. You can make a flashlight out of it.
I got a free decent 26650 and 2x cheapo 18650 with it too.
All for (what was it?) € 13 or something.

—fyi, some sad member marked this post as ‘rude’—

I only fix one of the switches, for it was too stiff and sensitive. No other issues found.

FYI these are back in stock again but at 50% off the regular price. Not such a deal anymore.

Got mine in the mail today.

No unexpected issues. Got a plastic retaining disc, I’m pretty sure it’s acetal though, nicely machined, so no concerns there (shouldn’t soften below 180°C). Solder joints and thermal interfaces will be reworked for good measure. 26AWG wiring is a bit thin, so that goes out too.
Lots of material in the pill, it could easily hold a 20mm driver if necessary. 22-23mm maximum.

PS: If you have the pill disassembled anyway, deburr the inside as well. Mine had quite large burrs on the sidewall (where the end mill stopped for the 2 wiring holes) that could potentially come loose and short something out.

My batteries measured over 5000mAh if charging from 3.12v.

Quite sad though…
But i assume it was the “sh(it)” i quoted.

Where’s the rule not to behave like some communist?

Seriously though, what about “crap” then ?
It’s the same thing / substance.
often used in the same context: “piece of crap”
or “that scared the crap out of me”
or “crappy battery” for example.

Jerommel, you are escalating this, seems not neccessary, please follow the forum rules, please remove your post.

If you can not distuinguish what words are considered rude or not in the english language, choose not use any words that might be considered rude.

Another thing, Raccoon guy.
Since you’re so occupied with rules and behaviour of people on BLF,
What the hell are those knife murderer pictures supposed to mean?
You apparently glorify serial killers?
You know this is supposed to be a “family value forum”, don’t you?
Also suited for children (who use words like sh(it) and crap by the way…)
You could have avoided this risqué conversation by the way.

As for being occupied with rules and behaviour, simply pointing out the forum rules if they are not being followed, like raccoon did, sounds like normal behaviour to me.

Stop behaving like hypocritical commie virtue signalers to avoid urinating people off and trigger risqué conversations.

To be clear, flagging my post as rude because i quoted “sh(it)” is not normal behaviour.
If you want to police on a forum, become a moderator and chase everyone you don’t like out.

By the way, why do you have a political signature when you’re always against discussing politics (which is not allowed on BLF, and for good reason)?

……aaaand that’s all for me for today in this topic…

:+1:

Before you go, would you please remove the posts that you filled with language that is considered rude, this is supposed to be a family-friendly forum and even apart from the rules for me that is part of why I like it here.

I added a question to my post (since it was supposed to be the last post here… :person_facepalming: ).

Yeah okay, i’ll remove those (wo)rds. :+1:

Yes, there was a problem with the driver pocket also. The major I.D. of the driver shelf was oversize, say 19-19.5mm I think? The pass thru hole was like 17.8-18mm so you could actually move the 17mm driver over enough to short out on one of the SMD’s or positive lead… something like that…

Also since the mcpcb board isn’t screwed or glued, (the Z1 mcpcb was screwed down) a couple members had the board rotate when they tightened the cover on, and sheared the leads. IIRC….
