Jetbeam RRT 3

Hi there ,

Is it possible modify (upgrade) mine old Jetbeam rrt 3 ? I like to have more throw.
Yes i can buy a new god trower, but i like verry much the magnetic ring.
Otherwise i am looking for the acebeam K70 if there is no way to upgrade it.
I hope that some one has some sugestions.
Maybe the Cree XHP35 Hi

Thanks Christiaan

Do you know which version of the RRT-3 that you have? How many LEDs are there in it?

There are multiple versions of the RRT-3, so knowing the model you have would be good, to help you modify it.

I have the first version with one sst 50 led , the 1200 lumen version.

In this case, an XPl-HI would boost throw by a significant amount, on the 20mm board if it fits:

Surely you can somehow put a new driver and an XHP35 HI in there, but my guess is that you will lose the control ring functionality.
I must say that the SST50 RRT3 is pure classic. :sunglasses:

Okay thank you very much, i am not technical i dont no almost nothing about flashlights ,but do i need to buy other parts to upgrade? or only the led with the 20 mm board ? Driver?

Thats for shure its a oldy , i give it a try if it dont match i only lose some bucks.
And go for the the K70, I need a good trower with a tail switch for momentary.
I need this for work on safari in the Pantanal in Brasil…spotting wildlife

@brasilchris, you should not need to change anything, except for the LED and board presoldered by Kaidomain.

Just open the light, unsolder the wires to the SST50 LED board, solder the wires to the XP-L HI board, close up the light, and you’ve now got a throwier light!

Else, if you don’t want to modify the light, just register on this website:

https://m4dm4x.com/

And search for Astrolux MF02, Astrolux MF04, BLF GT.

All of these lights throw very very far, especially the Astrolux MF04 and BLF GT.

Actually, the last 2 lights throw even farther than the K70

Okay Thanks , i already order the XP-L HI i hope it works.
I see the revieuws on you tube MF04-02 and the BLF GT WOW :+1: very good trowers indeed, i like very much the magnetic ring on the Jetbeam (also the acebeam K70 and K60) The tail switch is a must for me. I dont know if the Acebeam L16 is enough for me max. 600 metros of throw.

The Jetbeam RRT3 was advertised with 700 yards of trow?….What do you think with the XP-L Hi i wil get 1000 metros of throw?

It’s gonna get quite close to 1000m, perhaps even reach it 1000m of throw.

Knowing that the BLF GT Mini can achieve 750m with a 43mm reflector, the RRT-3 with an XPL HI with a 58mm diameter reflector could achieve quite a bit more throw compared to the very large domed SST-50, close to perhaps 1000m.

BlueSwordM close to 1000 m that,s fine for me.Thanks for your comments and information. Hopefully next year is comming some nice trowers with tail and side switch. with the 26650 our the 21700 batery .
Have a nice day

It’s really quite easy to dedome those Luminous SST leds. If you let it run till its nice and warm the led dome will easily come away. They are not bonded right to the led like the Cree leds. You will gain significant throw just by dedoming it. If you’re replacing it anyway you might want to see what you get just by dedoming. Led color will also become more neutral white.

Yes, but the SST50 still has a bigger die than the XPL HI, so he will still gain more throw.

Nonetheless, it would be interesting to do so.

Hi there,I am new on this forum and dont know so much about flaslights i am not technical ,what is dedoming?
Sory for mine englisch

The led has a clear lens attached to it. Most leds have this clear portion above the led. Only very few high intensity versions have a flat clear top. When the led is nice and hot it can be removed. By doing this you will decrease the apparent size of the led and you will gain throw by doing this. Now after removing the dome you will lose a some of the brighness, this is going to be most notable in less spill. But the trade off is increase in intensity and better throw. The loss of lumens is less noticeable than the increase in throw distance. I was suggesting you try this prior to swapping the led because you may be sufficiently happy with the results. You will get more throw with the xpl-hi, dedoming is something you can try. Not all leds dedome as easily as the SST-50. Some require cutting or soaking in gasoline. I’ve personally dedomed SSTs and there is nothing to it.

Okay i understand, when the new led arived i go experiment a litle bit (dedoming) .
Can i use also the XHP 35 HI emiter our another powerfull LED? without losing the magnetic ring?

You can not use the XHP35HI without a different driver, so no magnetic ring.

That is because the SST50 and XPL HI LEDs are 3V LEDs, while the XHP35HI is a 12V LED.

:+1: Thanks
