Emitter swap for a Nitecore Tip SS?

I swapped mine with 219B 90CRI. No improvement other than tint, I would go with 351D instead.

I also tried the 5700K 219B, everything is fine but I just don’t like the tint. The color rendering is okay but the tint doesn’t feel like a high CRI LED.

I put a 219C 3500K in mine.
Very happy with that choice.
I couldn’t vote for it though.
The TIP has a buck driver, so the low Vf of the 219C comes in handy.

Thanks for that info! I didn’t realize that it has a buck driver, I am not good at identifying drivers even by looking at them. I suppose that 219C is even floodier than the stock XP-G2? That tiny OP reflector is really handy in EDC use though.

Not much difference in throw, yeah, there must be a difference, but i didn’t care about that.

…not much throw either way…
Very small reflector…

But with the LH351,which has a very large die, it will probably be a lot floodier.

I can’t judge very well but the lens on the TIP SS seems to have some sort of AR coating? The reflected light looks slightly purple.

Great to see that we now have all kinds of interesting emitters and seeing the poll results also lots of different opinions.

I don’t think I would choose any of those. I’d pick something circled on this chart intsead.

Mtn sells XP-L V6 3D, but it seems that XP-L in 4A tint is less common (or mayhe it’s because of my lack of experience in sourcing emitters)? In short, does it mean that it’s more rosy if it’s under the BBL?

Yes, below the BBL is more rosy, above the BBL is more green. 3C is a decent color temperature, but it looks pretty green to me. XP-L with a dome is also kind of prone to Cree rainbow effects, and has a much floodier beam than XP-G2, so I’d suggest a HI version if possible. XP-L HI in 3A, 3D, or 4A is what I’d probably look for, ideally. Or Nichia 219B.

But that’s just me. I really like 4500K to 5000K rosy-tinted lights.

I didn’t realize how green my 1A tinted lights(XM-L2 U2 1A) are until I upgraded my desk light to SW35 219B. I also like rosy-tinted lights ranging from 4000K to 5000K. But again I’m still trying to find a sweet spot between output, tint, and a reasonable CRI. The Nitecore TIP uses a small OP reflector so I assume that the tint shift would be less noticeable?

Yep, nice little well AR coated lens. I never noticed any purple in the beam.
Sometimes AR coated lenses give a faint purple ring around the spill, which would be white with a plain glass lens.

… and sometimes not so faint.

LH351D 4000K P6 90+ CRI is my choice. It’s the best.
