GB Clone Offically "SOLD OUT" 10/21/18 XPL HI 1300LM Focusing AKA Cometa 2016

Wellp, I finally got my first order, played with it, seems nice. No spacers/insulators at either the driver or tailswitch.

No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There’s always a boom tomorrow…

Still, it’s pretty bright, dunno if it’s 1300lm based on ceiling-bounce, but it could be the cell I used for testing (kinda old, ain’t sweating it).

I hate the Bat Signal, though. Always did, not a fault of the light itself, just the nature of the beast.

Wish I could put a stop for just a turn or two away from fully-zoomed to prevent that, leave a kind of ugly blurry rounded-square instead of a speckled image of a lit chip.

All in all, it’d makes a decent host, but even leaving it as-is (got the 3B, nice tint), it’s a nice light. For the price, it’s a steal.

Hmm, maybe I should get a dozen, sell them to unsuspecting widows and orphans. :smiling_imp:

I put an o ring (30mm ?) on the batt. tube right at/below the zooming threads. ...Just the results you want.

The best emitter to swap in to this light is available now

Cas Vegas.

Took mine with me to rural France, where i am now.
Just reassembled it as is.
Al works well, and the black parts inside the head make for a clean beam without rings, unlike my Brinyte B158B…
More lumens and considerably more heat than the Brinyte which runs a neutral warmish old stock XP-G2 on 3 Amperes.
The Brinyte outthrows the Cometa of course (no surprise).
Despite the switch boot hugging the switch button, no problems whatsoever with the Cometa.

I ordered some brand spanking new Osram #####.TG LEDs from Led4power, i’ll try one in the Cometa with a FET CC driver at 4 - 4.5 Amperes.
Should be fun! :sunglasses:

Perfectly understood

Good luck.

That is quit interesting, thanks for posting this SKV89

Just took a few shots during disassembly. I guess the driver is a little small for the pocket but with the driver ring, it stays in place well enough. I have some Utorch s2+ clones coming and I really like this driver.

This pill is great! The thin o ring is used as Lightbringers’ anti-batman signal bumper and the thicker o ring acts as a grip I put on the tailcap. The pringled insulator is back there but I put on some kapton tape for additional insulation.

Is that lens coating durable enought to handle my OCD polishing and removal of dust particles? :open_mouth:

Nice. Thanks for sharing.
I wonder 26650 cell will fry this led?

The KLD-PC2 diffuser works exceptionally well with the Italia Cometa, if they are you’re thing.

It’s like it’s OEM.

Led4Power suggested a 5amp cell, so I suppose as long as it’s not over that you should be alright,
I don’t really understand his bench testing and the heat management reasoning, but with intelligent guys like him I just follow the advise.

“Nice. Thanks for sharing.

Runs fine on a full charge 26650. Starts to warm up after a couple of minutes on high but nothing startling.

Bargain of the year at minimum. :sunglasses:

Dream on.

” Dear XYZ

These people know exactly what they are doing, and are skating a very fine line under contract law. Not completed payment yet ? I don’t think so (nor do PayPal, or my credit card provider).

If it ever turns up, if it even exists, I’ll probably try to flip it, as it seems several highly respected members are offering already. But first I’ll need to have it in my hands. I’m not so immoral as to try to sell things that I don’t actually have. Oh, but that would be the futures market (AKA house of cards).

My $14.95 experiment is going exactly the way I thought it would.

Boy oh boy, that is one Sharp experiment, you intellectual grump… isn’t there some really smart things you can do for us all…??
You’re one of the smartest members we have had and you’re wasting your time like this, how about pickup where MEM left off, pal … ??
I guess I’m glad to see your abrasive seemingly toxic a, you’ve got a lot to offer, if only you could find better dumb downed words to explain it all…

Sorry MEM was not a good example, forgot

He was a “Tosser” and burned off a few here with shabby dealings. More than a few.

So to speak.

Also I suspect not quite as clever as he liked to make out. And did very little of interest.

But, hells bells, I might be judged the same way in future.

But that was not his advise.
The new little Osram is not to be driven with more than 5 Amperes.
Efficiency is already quite low at that high current. More current will not produce more light.
A fully charged cell rated 5 Amperes max. cont. current will still push more than 5 Amperes through the poor little LED, because it only needs 3.40 Volts for 5 Ampere current.
LEDs need current regulation, unless their Vf (forward voltage) is high enough to survive direct drive. Cree XP-L (HI) for example have high Vf.
Besides that, a 18650 which is rated only 5 Amperes max. cont. current must be pretty crappy…

I have the light and the osram led on the way. Probably better to add some resistance when using the osram led. At least remove the double springs.

Hey Tom Tom, Google maps on an android phone is better.
But i think it’s time to stop trolling and pushing other members over the edge.
You’re making people angry.
I’m sure you noticed this.
People will have to start bothering SB and report your sorry backside to try put an end to this crap.
I know i will.

@ T18 :
Let it slide. Don’t feed the troll.

Just get a proper CC driver.
You’ll have full output for at least half the battery charge.
