Feeler thread / sneak preview: Wuben TO50R HC ("The Flashlight")

Those are very thoughtful features but regarding the difficulty locating the buttons in the dark, they should make at least one of the buttons white and have it illuminated constantly when off. For those concerned about battery drain, they can just unscrew the tail cap slightly to lock it out.

On the new Wuben E05 that I recently reviewed, they’ve come with a more or less nice situation, making the pocket stick on the opposite side of the switch (on the head). It is not a perfect solution but it helps to locate it everytime you pick the flashlight!

BTW, thanks maukka for the tests and information! :+1:

That’s what I typically do with side switch lights: Turn the clip to the opposite side of the switch and you’ll easily know where the switch is.

The TO50R has a super efficient design. In the 250 lumen mode it clocks in at over 10 hours with an average system efficacy of ~125lm/W. This is the highest of any CRI90+ light I’ve tested. Regulated for the first 8 hours and slowly declining after that until stepping down to 50lm for the remaining runtime.

Can you confirm if this light flashes S-O-S correctly? I am rubbed the wrong way on Wuben with their A21 flashing S-O-O instead of S-O-S. Seemed like a great gift light for my father but now it’s just an embarrassment. Great feel, but really… Probably never buy another Wuben.

I can confirm the SOS is correct.

Thank you the,
i can deal with it, if its in CW available… :sunglasses:

You must be pulling my leg… :sunglasses:

This light will be NW, 5000K, 90+CRI. No other versions planned.

Maukka, is there any temperature regulation or preset stepdown timers on the higher modes? I really hope they don’t have any step down timers.

Interested

It’s temperature regulated. It isn’t as sophisticated as a really well optimized PID, but it stays brighter longer when you keep it cool. Even bounces back after stepdown if you manage to bring the temperature down enough. At some situations this may result in slow oscillations as the light climbs back to full output and steps back down after heating up again.

Without cooling on turbo and high my sample steps down to about 820 lumens and stays there in room temperature (23c) without additional cooling. Surface temperature is about 50 degrees. Most lights this size can’t retain 800 lumens without cooling or burning your skin.

Thanks for the graph! I think if the light was set at 1,200 lumen mode, the oscillation would be farther apart and less pronounced. Maintaining true 800 lumens is really good for this size light. But it is 21700 host so should have more mass. Someone should suggest to Wuben to add a sustainable 800 lumen mode.

Na, i never make neighbours angry…
Surly not my favorite color but still a must have… :innocent:

This looks really nice!

Any rough estimates on price?

The magnet in the tail is super strong (and useful). Although at times, it sticks to nearby stuff a bit too eagerly…

Just the way I like it!

I wish this is not a super expensive flashlight, ’cause the shape it is showing is the flashlight

Maukka do you have the weight without battery? I just want to see how it compares with the TO46R. The thermal performance of the TO46R is pretty good already but I hope this added a good amount more mass since the output is so much higher.

126 grams with the clip but without a battery.

Oh that’s not so heavy. With a little more mass, it should be able to sustain the 1200lm mode.
