Need help im new

Yeah, there’s a calculation for it. You have to define first how much light you want reflected back from the distance you’re trying to measure. That sounds complicated, but it just means that you decide how much light is enough to say you ‘reached’ a certain distance. Most guys around here use 1/4 lux as the minimum, and the calculation for that is the square root of the total candela, multiplied then by 2.

Look through this thread for a bit more info.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the answer is in meters. So, using that formula, the throw of the light in question would be:

sqrt(282,000) x 2 = (531.037) x 2 = 1062.074 meters until the light is only 1/4 lux

Depends. First you need the LED on MCPCB. I would not recommend to dedome a XP-L since its not easy. I would rather buy a XP-L HI, it comes without dome from factory, about 7$ on MCPCB at Int-Outdoor, maybe cheaper at Kaidomain.

Do you want more than one brightness level? If not, you don’t even need a driver, you could just bridge the original driver and drive the LED directly. FET+1 drivers are available for a couple of dollars at Banggood. But as I said, this light has a forward clicky, which is not nice to use with this driver.

I don’t really need much more brightness its probably not a big enough increase to notice, once you get to 1000 lumens going up just a little bit really isn’t worth it, and $7 aint bad at all, now all I need to do is look into batteries

oh brightness levels? does the L2 not
have levels?
Id kinda like that im not gonna run 100% 24/7

so yeah brightness levels is a must, and what do you mean tricky with a side switch?

he he just got some birthday cash so ill probably be ordering an L2 soon

Maybe you could look at some of the 4AA lights. Sofirn SF11 is an inexpensive option. There are several brands to choose from and they have Decient throw for the money you are willing to spend. Sure some of the others here can guide you to the other options.

im more interested in LiPo, rechargeable, more battery life, more amps can be pulled from the battery and in the long run more cost effective

https://www.banggood.com/NEW-Convoy-L2-XPL-HI-Two-Cells-Version-1000LM-26650-4Mode-LED-Flashlight-p-1039417.html?ID=519953&cur_warehouse=CN so what LED option do I get? whats the best one it gives? I know I want more of a neutral white over cool white to penetrate dust and stuff better but which one is that?

http://www.mtnelectronics.com/index.php?route=product/product&manufacturer_id=14&product_id=652&sort=pd.name&order=ASC&limit=100 ill actually probably order from this site since this says it comes with a tube extension so I don’t have to run 2 batteries all the time but ill also need batteries, im not to worried about protected I have experience with lithium batteries I just want something that’s good but not insanely expensive

They will all come with battery extension. Mountain Electronics will probably be quicker delivery to Idaho plus you can buy a couple of batteries at the same time. Banggood you can probably find a coupon code by going through some of the deals here http://budgetlightforum.com/forum/marketplace/commercial/liaisons and save $10 but delivery will be 2-3 weeks plus challenging customer service if something goes wrong. Get a 3A-3B or 4B-4C tint.

The L2 has a low voltage warning.

You may need to worry about fit. I’m not sure. Some 26650 batteries don’t fit an L6 but it is a little different. Search the L2 threads ??

+1

I would def check out the Lumintop GT Mini, for a light its size it is a little beast. If you shop around you can find it for around $40 for the quality of the light I don’t think it can be beat at that price point.

Dunno if you saw these …

Convoy L2 for $28.79 - $30.95 That is cheaper than a L2 host. Go figure.

Convoy L6 $52.76 - $60.88 depending on emitter.

Black L6 with NW emitter on Flash Sale $55.99 —> https://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_360866.html

Convoy L2 code 6335CK expired

Unless there’s some nice flashlights hidden in those Easter eggs, ^ another spammer!

convoy S2+ is nice and can be as cheap as $10
get that, a cell and a $2 charger [they work fine, just lacking UI and may be slower than necessary]

um
i would recommend a non-thrower for a 1st light
you will find a thrower to be not good for around the house work
which is probably more common than “what is that in the yard 200 feet away at night?” type queries

way more common is “where is that #$%%ing thing that rolled under the sofa?”

FW3A is a super light for like $35

My advice is stay off this site or you will go broke .
