Sofirn Q8 group buy (gb closed, but try PM to Sofirn for discount)

Look at the belly side red LED blinker. Orgasmic beacon. You could use some gel films and a diffuser. Heat affecting the film would not have an issue, so 5-digit lumens lights ought to not have an issue.

Technically they refer strobe to be flashes like below 200 microseconds or so? Anyway, see if there is a way to fine tune the length of the ON duration?

The bike strobe is nice, but maybe we can look at the above aircraft strobe also that’s implemented at the tail end of the 787.

BLF or Sofirn, the Q8 is really a very superb light. i’ve been routinely modding mine with 351D 4000k 94CRI LEDs, tail spring bypass and upgraded LED wires(22ga). they are my “Go To” light for most jobs, espc my tailstand “room lighters”. I plan to flash the driver with toykeepers fun programming for at least 1 light but for ease of use, i think i’ll keep most of them stock.
I gifted one of my mod’d versions to my dad, and he LOVES it, best light he said he’s ever had, espc compared to the dozens of new LED lights he’s bought.
I even have a Req for a 3000k XPL-HI version.
LOVE this light! Sofirn or otherwise!

I think that for most BLF enthousiasts, Anduril may be the nicest user interface (but not for all, some people prefer Narsil above Anduril), but for the general public Narsil is perfect enough, I do not think that it will make a difference if they get Anduril or Narsil.

It may not make a difference now but if no one is around/willing to maintain Narsil then you will be stuck with a UI that cannot be put on newer lights. This is a problem and something that should be considered for the future unless you want every light to have a different UI.

You are suggesting a new BLF responsibility: if we want a consistent user interface delivered by the manufacturers, we must be around to tweak it for every new flashlight type that comes to the market. And for Narsil we=TomE, and his presence on the forum is limited at times, and for Anduril we=ToyKeeper who currently spends numerous hours on the forum and on firmware, but who knows when the moment comes that she will be discovered by a smart and visionary software company and be gone? So I do not see that maintenance of Anduril is neccessarily more future-proof than Narsil.

The best is if manufacturers who make use of BLF firmwares learn to make the changes themselves.

I think the best would be the next generation, e.g. a user-programmable version. A simple free software for all platforms (including Win/Linux/Android) and a programmer-cable like it’s developed at the moment from Lexel. And an opinion to program a light without desoldering the driver.
THAT would be my dream for the future!

Emisar is probably the closest thing to this right now. The D4S has programming pins and open source firmware.

There are already ways to program using the blinking light of a phone or pc screen. No cable involved! Maybe that can become more common.

TK is working on that Jason.

Yes, but lfowner didn’t seem to be aware of it.

That’s correct. Link?

Video Proof of Concept

It is a proof of concept.
It is slow and you can’t flash the µC while it is communicating. So it is more a thing to configure the lamp. A Russian flashlight manufacturer does it already. But the programming key is for flashing.

That is what I understood.

Thank you JasonWW for the pictures.

There was no cheat sheet in the package of the Sofirn Q8?

I don’t think so. Maybe someone else can say for sure.

When i got the Sofirn Q8, there are 2 sheets of instructions, same as the BLF Q8. The one with the diagram/table/sort of flowchart thingy and the one with heckloads of words and sentences and some tables. Not sure what is meant by cheat sheet though……

I thought it might be prudent to mention that Sofirn was kind enough to help me out getting another Q8, this one is slated to become something quite different than was originally intended. I will, of course, keep y’all informed as this little plan of mine begins to unravel.

Is it a THICC extended Q8?

The cheat sheet is small and thin and meant to be folded up and stored under the tail cap of the Q8.

How does yours manage to get such a high stock rating? Mine is only 4700 at stock using 30Q’s & 5030 with a bypass. Measured with the TA Lumen Tube

Djozz measured 4700 lumens too

He’s not using a TA Lumen Tube. He has a Manxbuggy Tube. It has no diffusers and is calibrated differently.
