The BLF GT70 "Giggle Monster" is here! 7,500lumens, 1,500m throw! Group buy Closed!

I just received my conversion kit today in Australia.

I can’t wait to see it perform!

Now for a little time soldering.

Now where are those videos again?

I have the head and other bits loose.

This video shows the process, although you do not have the reflow the LED with the kit.

I have now installed the conversion kit and everything is running great.

The switch wires could have been a bit longer as they have to be cut and soldered back in again.

To get the ring holding MCPCB in I used circlip pliers with very thin ends on them.

This thing sure puts out some light with a much bigger hotspot.

Good work team!

Why didn’t the new switch fit through the switch hole? Was it thicker?

Received my conversion kit today.
Thanks

My conversion kit arrived Monday. Thanks team.

Is there any empirical data on dedoming CW vs NW 70.2’s? I know dedoming tends to shift the tint warmer, and so CW is recommended. But what are the numbers?

I don’t think there are any numbers at this point comparing them. And since the conversion kits are just now showing up it might be a little bit before we have much data.

I don’t have CW/NW comparison just dome/dedome in Astrolux MF02. with dome I had 9000 lumens and 7500 after dedoming.

Texas Ace Alright I guess I’ll wait before I dedome. Or I’ll dedome and try to do some reproducible beamshots before and after.

Zozz so lower lumens, but did you get more throw? Odd how that works, I get that it throws farther because it’s focused better, but why do the lumens go down?

I’m concerned about throw first off, then color temp. Ideally I’d like it warm ish, but I don’t know how much warmer it’ll go, and I probably should’ve started when CW I think. Nothing to it but to do it though I guess, so I’ll dedome the NW. But I also got a spare NW that was even warmer, I’m an idiot, I should’ve went cooler there too haha. I can always get a CW emitter, but these aren’t as cheap as xp format emitters.

With dome I had 226125 cd
Without dome I got 355500 cd

The lumen loss is because no reused light because of dome missing. With dome some of the light reflected back from the dome surface to the phosphor and then it going out again so it reused. I can’t explain it any better but I read it somewhere more better explained. That is why a Wavien is used in Aspheric high output mods. It reflects back that light which unused and othervise not hit the lens.

I do like the Lumintop BLF GT very much. I have this idea of line of succession of best flashlights. It goes, 6D Maglite, Surefire M6-CB, Olight SR90, Lumintop BLF-GT70.

Totally only my own view.

Yes, you will loose some lumens but gain throw.

As a general rule we have been seeing around a ~40% increase in throw and a ~20% loss in lumens with the XHP70.2’s.

Based on my own testing I would say it generally gets around ~400-500k warmer after the dedome but the green tint shift on most LED’s is what stops me. We will have to see what people think of these particular led’s when it comes to that. So far I think someone said that the CW did not have much / any green after dedoming.

Today is the last day for orders!

Ordered on 10/19, received today 11/1 - Chicago, IL.
Cells are charging; trying to suppress all the giggles.
Cheers all.

Editing to mention, Lumintop threw in a shoulder strap for me for free. Very delighted with this group buy. Thanks.

Thanks for the info Texas and Zozz!

That wavien looks nuts! I wonder what that would do for a GT70!?

Green doesn’t bother me so much I don’t think, this isn’t an often used light, it’s more of a wow factor light. But by that standard I’d want it as cool as possible for the light saber effect. We’ll see what we get!

I want to thank the wonderful leaders of BudgetLightForums for recommending the magnificent Lumintop BLF-GT70 to me. It is very affordable, super high quality, and very well thought out. My 2nd one just cleared Customs and will soon be delivered to me. :crown: :+1:

Mostly nothing. It can’t be used in reflector lights. Only in aspherics.

Dedoming does make a noticeable difference with this flashlight, the hotspot decreases in size a bit but I can tell that it does throw farther. There is some tint shift when dedoming the CW xhp70.2, but honestly unless I’m blasting the bushes 50ft from me I can’t see any green and it really does improve the details that you can see at distance. I do notice that there is slightly less of a “barrel” of light coming out with the dedome but since I already own a very high output thrower(X65vn 5000k)I wanted something a little different so losing a few lumens for throw was worth it. Overall this is a really fun flashlight!

Oh I missed that bit haha. Learning

Thanks for the info! This is encouraging. As far as less of a barrel of light, you mean less flood nearby? Or less wide beam, but it throws farther?

I wonder if that doesn’t help the apparent throw distance? Because less light spilling out in front of you would make the light reflecting back from a mile away seem brighter by comparison?
