I am going to do another run of triple s2+ heatsinks, with slightly more thread tolerance to avoid fitment issues.
I have a new design concept that uses a large retaining ring with 20mm OD and .630” ID that can be used with 2 sided drivers like the the H17F. There’s enough thread clearance to make this work. The retaining ring itself will be used to tighten the heatsink into the light rather than slots cut in the copper. It will have more than just two retaining ring holes in it in case you slip and jack it up.
Does this sound like a good all purpose solution? I still have to test this concept but I will be cutting it tomorrow.
I already have these rings because I had to design and make them for a clients custom heatsinks. Well, not the exact ring but very close. It’ll look more or less like this:
In Him (Jesus Christ) was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. http://asflashlights.com/ Everyday Carry Flashlights, plus Upgrades for Maglite.
It’s a triple heatsink, though I have a program for singles also. The white flats should work with this kind of setup but not the black flats. Black flats are basically obsolete now though.
Good thinking Dale. There will need to be a provision inside of the pill which will allow it to be turned out. The ret ring would unscrew, then the driver turned sideways, then removed via inside provision.
I made a duplicate copper pill for my Jaxman Z1 and made it a bit more robust, I think it really helped in the light I built it for and it needed all it could get as I had an SBT-70 in there making a lot of heat. Pretty straightforward build really, I don’t know how many Hoop would sell or if it’d be worth the programming time…
teacher, I didn’t buy into the Cometa thing but I’m pretty sure it’s the same light as the Jaxman Z1. Should be the same pill AFAIK…
IIRC Negative on the interchangeability…..with the Z1 or X6… with the very first Bombetta’s
Bombetta on the left, Z1 on the right, as if I had to point it out…
Edit: above. The lens were interchangeable
Kawi, you mean that the Cometa is NOT a Jaxman Z1? Sure thought it was, even read something recently about that very thing. Me and my memory. Sorry about that teach…
Edit: Ahhh, the Cometa was a Manker clone of the Jaxman Z1….
Yep, they are all good… but the screw retention is far & beyond my favorite.

Teacher, gotta agree with you. I love it for use with densely populated 2 sided drivers.

I still have one from the last batch, no it’s not for sale, that I saved for me. They are true works of art.

can this be used with an OSLON WHITE/BLACK LED?
Elzetta Bones.
Looks great Hoop, using the retaining ring holes to thread the pill in makes sense but what about removal?

They are truly works of art and I am glad that you are offering them again.
I will be in for a couple.

Like! Please put me on the list.
How about a Cometa copper pill? Recently there have been sold quite many so the demand should not be bad.

I made copper Z1 heatsinks. I think I sold maybe three of them. Still have a few. Cometa heatsinks would probably sell similarly.
Ah, yeah, that’s about what I thought. BUT, with some of the new emitters these may be making a comeback.
Might be worth a poll to get an idea the numbers involved? I mean, you already have the program and all…
( would like to officially speak for one of those few remaining Z1 copper pills… please let me know)
Color me impressed Dale. That pill and retaining ring was a bit tricky to make I’m sure. Nice work.
Thank you. I guess it’s alright for an amateur.
I DO try…
Now if I could only get that fit and finish the true pro’s show off… (pointing at YOU of course!)
Definitely interested for S2+.
Just discovered this wonderful addiction.
PM sent about ‘Copper Z1 Heatsinks’.
IF you were to do one for the Cometa, I would be interested also. .

Still interested in the Z1 heatsink I pm’d you about

If the Z1 copper pill fits the Cometa, I’ll buy two.

No problem DB.
But as KB said they are two completely different ‘animals’.
No interchange possible.

Please add me for 1
The low mode should be lower.
I’d like to buy one S2+ full copper pill for a triple led build. Any chance you know when they’ll be able to purchase?
Tks!
