How can you use a keyboard without Home/End buttons?
I don’t really consider Home and End to be essential. However, it comes with a lot more keycaps than it can actually fit at one time, so the user can include whatever keys they want. And the firmware is open and easily configured, so the user can arrange the keys in any way. It also has extensive layering functionality, so it can give each key a bunch of different functions. It’s designed to be whatever the individual user wants.
About Home and End in particular though, I have three different ways to access those functions:
Vim-like programs: 0 and $
Emacs-like programs: Ctrl-A and Ctrl-E
Other: Fn-Left and Fn-Right
If there’s a thing missing that I wonder how people live without though, it’s… How can you use a keyboard without mouse functions? I find it really useful being able to click and scroll and stuff from the keyboard, without having to move my hand to a mouse.
TK? Could you make the key’s auto ranging and only use like 4 actual letters? In this way I could have fun with my wife when she’s doing the two fingered hunt and peck and only getting one word on “paper”.
I must be doing something wrong though, because even after all my posts here I still have paint on my keys.
Having Esc on the same row as my numbers is also literally a lifechanger. I don’t code but I see zero reason for tilde to take that spot.
I use tilde a lot, but I like it on the upper right corner instead of upper left. I use Escape a lot too. And with Backspace moved down one row, there’s a nice empty space to fill.
Agreed, its the tilde placement on regular full size and TKL boards that puzzles me. That key could be very commonly used for some people for all I know however.
Edit: Oh man that iceberg chart. Too real. Flashlights saved me from mech keyboards, but they didn’t save my wallet. And now I’m getting practice soldering sooo…
It’s a first draft. I was mostly wondering whether people think the categories make sense, whether anything seems to be missing or extra, whether any items are in the wrong place, etc.
As is, there is probably too much detail to put things into an image. And I’m not sure things are really in the right places.
In particular, I was really tempted to make “Flashlight phone app” its own category… either above Muggle or perhaps way down at the bottom as “Ascended”.
I jumped from Enthusiast to Irredeemable by buying a cheap soldering station with hot air. ADDED:
No, actually my first flashlight was Creepy. Because it used 10440.
I would add that westerners who use Taobao are Creepy.
Also I find 21700 not more weird than 14500. Actually I bought my first 26350 and 10250 before 14500, is that unusual?
We all are unique snowflakes (i machined my own FL and assembled it with a hand wired driver before i even got a 100lm) but the Tier settings are very good as is imho.
18650 ships with many of the “enthusiast” brands’ onboard-charging products, so I think it goes there. Acebeam bundles 21700s with several of their lights, so again, they probably go in the same category.
Where does writing a phone app for testing flashlights go?

It seems that Irredeemable or Fallen both feature very significant investments in the flashlight hobbies, either with time or with money.
But buying a light with battery X doesn’t fit the pattern, unless that light is a one-off custom.

I think ascended is just not going out where it’s dark

………. The paint on yours must be ‘Imron’..

I’m dumbfounded that people actually care this much about keyboards. Who knew?
Hahaha…just when I was about to take a shower and I read this…thanks, you just made my day today!
frank, can you imagine how many computer geeks gape in disbelief that ANYONE would care about a flashlight?
Yes, kind of. Ever seen a braille typewriter?
There are also steno chording keyboards, used mostly for increasing speed while writing down speech real-time:

It’s another big enthusiast community. There’s a tier system and everything.
I wonder how the iceberg tiers would look for flashlights…

So… Here’s a first stab at a flashlight iceberg tier system:
Muggle:

Enthusiast:
Weird:
Creepy:
Irredeemable:
Fallen:
Guess I’m at the creepy level ha!!!
Hmmmm, looks like I’m a tri-breed; a Creepy Weird Enthusiast.
CWE for short.

Under “Fallen” I think we need “Hosted a Group Buy.”

Weird, Creepy, with a touch of Irredeemable
Sounds really bad
Ascended: Are blind

Let's see what I am...
Looks like I'm mostly a weird enthusiast.
How to Post Images on BLF // Many knives for sale (USA only)
How to move a thread // WTS Brand New Timex Expedition Vibe Shock Camo Watch (USA only)
Maybe you were just marching too far ahead of the music
But I also have some 26350’s just sitting in a drawer. Maybe it’s time for a coming-out?
You are a flashaholic if you are forced to come out of the closet, to make room for more flashlights.
We all are unique snowflakes (i machined my own FL and assembled it with a hand wired driver before i even got a 100lm) but the Tier settings are very good as is imho.
(but i +1 the “Hosted a Group Buy.” Fallen
)
Updated the tiers a little. Still not sure how the different battery types should be categorized.

One of My clematis’s has a new flower , that’s unusual for this time of year.
I think it’s safe to say you walk among the fallen.
I think ascended is just not going out where it’s dark
It’s a class of its own: ‘Monolith’
You can place it before ‘Muggle’, or under ‘Ascended’, or even in one of 4=7 parallel universes.

I had a nice 10 item list of how deep my iceburg goes, found it pathetic and deleted it.
