*BLF LT1 Lantern Project) (updated Nov,17,2020)

Like some others I don’t need 2 lanterns. And would like to have a powerbank. And I believe V2, if it ever arrives, will have a number of other improvements over V1 as well.

But I’m not out of the V1 list. I will buy it when it’s available because:

  • it is easily good enough
  • it should be easily worth the price
  • available always is better than “hopefully arrives one day”. Even when the hopes are high and the day don’t seem distant

I’m not sure how V1 will be desined, but if battery configuration is 1S?P and there is a space in the case, it should be super easy for everyone to add powerbank feature himself. You can buy powerbank module for a few bucks, connect two wires, drill holes, glue it in and it’s done.

If you read the thread, you will know exactly how the lantern is designed. 4P. Just like the BLF Q8 from which it is derived.

Had to register for that.

Very interested.

When hiking at night, I always bring with me a “neutral” tint zebralight with a home made diffuser, but i would kill for a warmer, higher CRI tint and this awesome light distribution.

In my scenario, i would bring this lantern instead of a powerbank, and use the battery as emergency charger with a tiny magnetic battery->USB dcdc converter.

Would it be possible to include USB output inside this tiny monster? Even a 500mA cheap circuitry would be enough, for those like me that are concerned about backpacking weight and love multipurpose stuff.

Maybe, if there is no space for a full usb port, an USB otg adapter could be used if the circuitry inside the lantern could support it.

Anyway, really cool stuff, guys.

Thanks

Edit
Just read part of the thread, it appears that the powerbank function was dropped.
Well, i understand, still interested, I’ll have to bring extra gear and will not be that simple, but it’s all right. Maybe I’ll mod it

Welcome to BLF Arthur!

I'll wait for V3...... kidding of course. V1 sounds more than good enough for me and if a V2 comes about and is a useful upgrade, may get that one too.

Updated. Thanks!

Once the production model is available, and if it’s even equal or better than the Prototypes i have built so far, ( Proto-V1 & V2 i have & use now) then the production BLF LT1 lantern will still be better by far than any other consumer lantern i have tested, used and seen in stores or online.

Sorry, must have forgotten that i am already on the list… i want only one lantern total.

Are we still going to thread a steel bolt into an aluminium nut?

why not? if you own a digial camera,DSLR or a fillin light etc(most have alum bodies) and you have a tripod or monopod then you would do it without even think about it!!!

I know, that's why I'm not holding out for a possible V2 as V1 is going to be light years ahead of anything else

Tripod screws are always coated with nickel or zinc so you don’t have to worry about corrosion, and female threads are stronger then male threads so there won’t be a stripping problem. Every aluminum engine block and head has steel fasteners threaded into it.

Lets just hope that the screw is long enough so when the threads fail you can glue a steel nut, under the shelf…

Interested, please add me too.

I’d like to be added to the list if still possible. Definitely something cool here!

Interested
