Ultrafire T8. triple Q5 2x18650 flashlight

well. i was impressed at first, ALOT of light, esp for only 1 amp draw!

on 2x18650, it draws 1 amp, giving me a nice runtime

multimode

High: brighter than my R5-a3 by a little, much tighter hot spot, cool shapped surround

Med: very usably, if you dont wanna be blind

low: uber low, maybe 10-20 lumens

Strobe: bright, fast, perfect!

SOS: um. more like SOOoO???? def gets SO right, but not that last S. first one ive had with SOS that DOESNT work right

finish seems nice, but like a cheap Valspar spray paint. threading is very good.

ups: uber bright, good modes (except for the SOS)

2x18650 at 1 amp means over 2 hours on high!

can Tail stand!

quality switch

good threads, lubed and deep

solid chunk of aluminum

Downs: uses standard drop ins, meaning BAD heat sinking, HOWEVER it is MUCH better at that than say an 501b! DOES NOT USE P60 drop ins, uses the bigger ones

switch spring. WHILE it has a NICE metal slug to touch the battery, the spring behind it is too loose. what does this mean? shake the flashlight to change modes LOL

spring is only good for 1x18650, 2 is just too much mass for it

tail cap switch. having a tail cap switch on a flashlight this size is non-sense. however the switch seems to be of good quality

this is a cool flashlight, none the less. i like it, and will be keeping it, i just cant figure out how to mod the drop-in!

im pretty sure its glued together. an R5 upgrade would result in a tighter beam and a little more light at the same drive current. so if i ever figure it out, that will be the upgrade.

in the mean time, ill search DX for DIY drop ins of this size.

OH, the drop in ACTUALLY screws a little into the upper head to hold the lens in. strange design for a drop in style

forgot this part

Not that strange though. The TR-500 up to the TR-1200 have the same design.

did not know that. good to know

cant seem to find any drop ins for this size, nor a DIY kit.

its about 42mm (gotta break out the digital caliper, using a crappy ruler lol)

and everything on DX is 50mm in diameter....
