ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

My Sanrenmu Izula alternatives the SRM S628 and the 7130. The handle of the S628 is as good as it gets but the 7130 will get a similar paracord wrap sooner or later.

I’ve been eyeing both of them, the S628 in particular because of you, as I don’t have any small fixed blade. I will probably get both of them.

Batch n°2 !

My last review: Sanrenmu 9002

Review: http://chinese-knives.blogspot.com/2018/11/review-sanrenmu-9002.html

CH3504 got confirmed with S35VN blade at HRC 61.6! That’s awesome! :+1:

I like seeing that the steel is real. Now it would just be nice to see some more proper heat treat on the M390. 60-62. That is a big difference from 58 which is pretty soft for that steel.

Yes, and for D2 there must be some difference in edge retention between 58 and 60 HRC… we would need Pete @ Cedric&Ada to do some more rope cutting tests

A higher HRC doesn’t have to mean better edge retention when you get more micro chipping from the higher hardness.

So it’s okey to have a real D2 variant in a cheap blade, but then if performance is only marginally better than regular 8Cr13MoV, that’s a bit disappointing :smiling_imp:

Anyways, too many parameters with these steels… many D2 variants (chinese or not), different blade geometries, etc…

What are some cool budget front flippers?

I like the G10 version of these “Zebra” front-flippers.
For something fancier with titanium handle have a look at this one.

Or a small one: www.fasttech.com/products/9678829
Or the Ti Zieba G2: www.fasttech.com/product/9630487

Your FURA RIPPLE mod was well done !

Thank you. You’re talking about this one?

It’s quite hard to take good shots of the effect, it’s a bit like mother-of-pearl.
I think now a cop enjoys it as the job student who bought it lost it when he ran into a friday night’s check.
He could’ve got it back but he’s just too lazy.

Now he got this polished and anodized one:

I also sanded down the blade a bit and gave it a frosty stonewash finish.

I have the “Perfect Lines” but it’s not easy to flip open.

Adahn, I like the looks of both knifes any details as to what did you do to them? Looking at your nice Blogspot page I like the annodization you did to the TwoSun knife… :+1:

The two knives above got a polish with green and then with white compound and then a dip anodization to get the rainbow effect.

With the TS51 I played a bit too much though.
The front scale wouldn’t take the colors as well as I’m used to it and even after stonewashing it was a fingerprint magnet.
Now the front has a hazy greyish-green, the lockside has some etching pits from the Whink Rust and Stain Remover and a toxic green color, even though both scales were anodized with the same many 9V batteries.
I think I’ll keep it that way (or I’ll go to the local paint shop and ask if they can sandblast it for me, if I’m lucky they do bead blasting too).

Fura Gear “Slimfoot”, “Warhound” and “5 Holes” flippers side by side (more pics here):

Got myself a RAT-II in AUS-8 recently, nice and light/compact. :+1: If I had to compare the value with a light it would be with the BLF A6/S1. Maybe I can now add a knife to my wallet/phone/S1 shorty/car key/pen EDC, given its light weight.

Any thoughts on the RAT-II in AUS-8? My next (and final) knife would be the Delica4 instead of the RAT-II in D2, but that’s a long way from now since I’m not really a knife guy and prefer cheap-o razor blades for boxes.

I really like the RAT2 but if I had to get another one I’d want the R2D2 as the AUS-8 dulls way too quickly.
