Recessed button might be better, but to my eye the head looks bigger with deeper fins and the bezel is longer/bigger/stronger so mass looks bigger anyway.

Yes but heat conductivity is greater in a one piece part, particulary in aluminum or copper. A “longer/bigger/stronger” stainless steel bezel isn’t as much important for heat management than for the one-part-head where the LED MCPCB sits.
I was just pointing that with the button raised part of the previous prototype you could have both recessed button and a bit greater head mass…and incidentally a better looking flashlight IMO.

But that won’t happen as the new proto is said to be final.

would like to know approximate thermal stepdown / runtime behavior. Like how quickly will it stepdown from Turbo? I suppose with many emitters, it will still get fast relatively quickly… hopefully at least as good as D4S or better (time it takes before stepping down, let’s assume set to max thermal control setting)

I see the fuss about the raw machined version, looks really cool, but for me I like this light in the same matt black ano with SS bezel and tail cap as my ROT66.

I’m pretty sure they should stick to black/champagne color scheme as the previous light to make anyone who wants to have all of them in one colour BUT a third - clear anodising - option would also be great.

I totally agree with you especially on a small head like this, it is important to maximize thermal mass and surface area. I wouldn’t want a large stainless steel bezel, which is a thermal insulator. We do need a bezel inorder to get to the mcpcb so I prefer an aluminum bezel so it can absorb and shed heat much better.

I also agree that they could have raised the finning around the button to leave a recessed button. The current design with the wedge at the button loses some mass and fins around the button. But I doubt FF will redo the design since they already said this is the Final.

Since the PL47 is starting to ship, now my attention shifts to this light, I want one!!!

Anyone knows what specific TIR optic are they going to use, is it Ledil, Carclo?

Or the same optic as the DQG tiny 26650.

I sure wish they’d “embiggen” the individual TIR’s so they merge, all that wasted space kicks in my OCD and makes me crazy! :confounded: Maybe they could make the center TIR larger to attempt some throw? Just sayin…

I like the idea of a larger center TIR for better balance of flood + throw.

There’s a huge number of Chinese ~35mm lenses available, they are used for one of light bulb standards. Unlikely to be exactly the same as Tiny, though it could be compatible. Judging by head diameter I think the lens would be <35 mm.

Titanium is a heat insulator instead of conductor, which is not a good choice for a high output scorcher like this. The heat will get trapped in the MCPCB and internal components will get damaged pretty quickly.

It is a cruel freak of nature that the unchallenged no 1 best material for flashlights is such a cheap and common layman’s material as aluminium.

I don’t like those snap-on/pop-off belt clips at all.

I completely have the same opinion, plus that a clip that goes parallel to the battery tube (Olight, Solarforce) looks much better than one that slopes towards it.

Is this just your wish or do you have some information, that it will have titanium body (as an option)?
This flashlight looks nice, but as usual, I have (several) different flashlights, that can do the same job, so I don’t really need it… BUT if it was made of titanium, it would be a piece to collect :slight_smile:

I do like the idea of a TIR with a larger center optic, to increase throw a bit.
