Teacher, I saw a comparison photo somewhere on a review (there are quite a few of these) over past few days and it was remarking how the switch had been recessed vs older model. In retrospect, maybe it was complaining about the v2 switch as sticking up. I have the original sp32 and to my surprise its switch seems pretty flush in my sample.. However, some reviewers have complained about their switch activating in their pockets. Makes one naturally assume that the improved version addresses this issue but apparently not. I will edit my incorrect assumption. Cheers!
No problem Streamer. I do not have the original SP32 to compare, but the V2.0 does stick up. That is really my only negative with the light….. and it is a small negative.
I really like it.
Have a good one my friend.

Yep. I wish flashlight manufacturers would focus on the need to lock the tailswitch out.
A detent (a “click point” would be helpful, so you could feel exactly when it locked out when being unscrewed.
Even better, a push-and-trurn feature to return the light to operation.
Nothing’s quite as embarassing for a flashlight geek as having someone say “Hey fella, your butt is lit up/flashing/SOS ….”
Hank, the Convoy S2 clicky tailcap fits the Sp32 perfectly and will function as a lockout for you. I tried it with my Convoy S2 and S5 tailcaps. It works! If you have one, try it. If not. Oh well….Cheers!

Interested, gold. What's new with the v2? A comparison table would be welcome. My original SP32 is my daily carry, only problem is having it turn on if I carelessly put it into my back pocket without locking out the tailcap.
Compared to the SP32A, the SP32A v2.0 has:
(Sofirn really should cut down on the model suffixes, decide on one way to iterate, and stick to it)
+ATR
+Battery indicator in switch
+CR123A compatibility
+other unspecified changes improve reliability
+Gold and Silver finishes
-v2.0 driver loses the electronic lockout
-Reduced output in Turbo mode in exchange for longer run time and stability
Fine light, good service, but like I said above, when even light enthusiasts have trouble sorting out all the models and their differences, it's a problem.
I received a gold SP32AV2.0 today. Shucks, I did not anticipate this group buy.
But let me encourage those of you who are interested in this light with some observations:
What I like about it:
Looks very nice – a rich, titanium gold.
The build quality is rugged. Feels like it could be passed down a generation.
Nice balance between flood and throw.
Bright. One of the brighter single 18650 EDCs out there.
It retains its brightness on Turbo much longer than a D4. I did a simple test, starting both on turbo simultaneously with fresh identical batteries. While the D4 started out far brighter, after 30 seconds, the SP32 v2 was much brighter as the D4 had stepped down 5 times.
It is slower to heat up and does not get as hot as a D4.
Very pocketable.
Easy to switch between step and ramp modes: From off, press and hold 3 seconds.
The disorienting strobe is full turbo brightness.
Battery level indicator light embedded in side switch.
Battery charge lasts a long time.
Takes any kind of 18650 – protected, unprotected, flat top or button top.
What I would like better:
A warmer color emitter; this one is 5500K, a little on the cool side of neutral white.
The switch light stayed on for 30 minutes instead of 5 seconds.
All in all, this light is a winner – as is. (Not that you couldn’t mod it better!)
I found ramping to be a little on the slow side – enough so that I wanted to explore the manual 4 steps setting which the light arrives with as the initial setting.
Regarding moonlight, the manual claims it’s 5 lumen. I found it bright enough to search for stuff under my car seats, bright enough to read with, to see a few yards ahead on a dark path, but not so bright as to disturb a sleeping tent mate. It’s a useful level that the manual claims can last 260 hours on a fully charged 3500Mah battery.

Yep, ramping takes 5 seconds; which is a bit slow… but I still prefer it to set outputs.
I totally agree about the moonlight mode, for me it is a usable setting as it is not super low. It is bright enough to be usable in many situations but not bright enough to be a bother to others in close quarters.

but V2 moon mode is way too bright compare to V1. Hence i still like V1 due to low moon mode and long runtime
The first batch of SP32A v1 had slow ramping (about 7-8 seconds). The later batches of SP32A v1 has ramping of about 3.5-4 seconds (I think Emisar D4 is 3 seconds?) I believe the SP32A v2.0 has similar ramping speed as the SP32A v1.
Yes, regarding the lowest mode on v2, I also find it a bit too bright. I often like a true Moon mode (1 lumen) for EDC flashlights..
Is it really that color in Real Life™, or just the way the pic came out?
Mine’s a sort of greenish-grayish-gold color, hard to describe, especially as it seems to change color depending on ambient light. I called it a sort of “pewter gold”.
I like it, as it’d certainly unique, but hey, I’d love a gold-gold color like is in the pic.

I inderstand what you mean about the color. It picks up and reflects the color of the light around it. My photo was taken under a 2700k (soft white) house lamp. The flashlight picked up the warm yellow. Outside, it is much the color you describe. I think that’s cool!
Yeah, I’m not even sure what to call that color. I recall seeing it before, but no idea on what, or what it might’ve been called.
Should call Ford or GM and ask what name that color would be. They have “interesting” names for colors, not just “red” or “green” anymore. Probably something like “Mediterranean slate”…
d_t_a I doubt the manufactured color has changed. How it looks to the eye or camera depends on the color of the surrounding light. I am going to guess your photo was taken near a daylight window or under cool florescent lights – a high kelvin number. The light bulbs in my house are 2,700 to 3,100K so it comes off looking a warmer tone. Outside at night, well, they all look black
I am liking this light and might pick up a few more for Xmas stocking stuffers.
LOL…so if the v2 has a high rise switch, then it addresses the issue of not being able to find it in the dark. Win some lose some.
Carry on.
I really like it.

Thanks Streamer, I ‘ve never heard anything about Convoy having a S2 clicky tailcap. Nothing like that for sale at the Convoy store.

Sorry,,,Was thinking everyone probably had an S2 Convoy flashlight…
Then you could just swap that tailcap to your Sofirn.
Maybe Sofirn can implement the same feature, however it works it’d be vary handy to enable locking out reliably.
They have it in SP31. Link here – https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FKJDH93/
Interested in 1 gold only.

I didn’t see this mentioned, but the v2 has better ramping, doesn’t it?

Is that how the new SP32A v2.0 gold looks like now?
It used to look like this, very "pale gold", as it was called that time. More like a light brown color.
(SP32A black -- SP32A v2.0 silver -- SP32A v2.0 pale gold)
the SP32A v2.0 silver comes in 2 types, depending on batch probably -- I've noted a glossy silver and a matte silver)
Interested in gold
