Canada Post asks foreign mail services to stop sending mail to Canada until further notice

Yeah I know. Added some things to my post.

Just for fun though. When do you think you’ll be receiving your packages? I’m counting February 2019

I think if we are lucky it will be February. And then we’ll have to return about 50% of the items we’ve ordered due to damages.

Going to be a lot of paypal claim-backs then, especially if Canada post tries to hold back shipments for more than a month, or damaged & beat up parcels.

Right now I imagine that there are trailers and trailers of boxes just all piled up on each other. As time goes by you know boxes are going to get crushed and damaged. Then there will be the frustration of the workers having to deal with a huge backlog and the rush to get it done.

I agree that Paypal is going to get hammered with claims.

I hope PayPal has some recourse for that.

That’s exactly what will happen. millions of people’s items, parcels & orders will pile up in cold, damp containers in yards, (probably for a month or 2) people will get frustrated in not receiving their orders in time, (especially Christmas orders that are gifts!) then millions of claims for refunds will start through credit cards, Paypal, etc. causing a lot of financial disaster for sellers and shippers, then when they suddenly release the system, it will be chaos with the mountain of back logged orders, the postal handlers will get frustrated, over loaded, and loose patience & damage, destroy, or lose people’s items without care, causing more claim-backs, and financial mess for everyone on both ends… All no thanks to our useless excuse for a PM to allow it, and to unions here who have upper control over the country & peoples lives all for their greed of money.

Mmmmnope, that’s the usual agenda, squeeze people by the balls so they’ll be screaming to the pollies to capitulate on everything.

Here in NYC, whenever there’s a hoo-ha about the budget (and tax-hikes to fund it), rather than canceling funds for the “arts” (like some fat chick who coats herself in in chocolate syrup and then rolls around on a huge canvas; no, I’m not kidding) and such, they threaten to close firehouses and police precincts instead. People rear up on their hind legs and howl loud’n’long, and of course the proposed budget goes through unquestioned.

“Get ’em by the balls, and their hearts and minds will follow.”

Well said DBSAR

Oof, this is some sad news. I guess any international orders won’t make it in time for Christmas.

So Canadian political discussions are G2G but US political discussion is a no-no here at BLF?

It’s just a notice to stop ordering from international seller for now.

So, no more ordering stuff online for Canadians for now :frowning:

Is there no other way to get parcels/packages into the country? I would have thought UPS and Fedex run into canadian but not sure how that works

UPS and Fedex will not be affected of course, but most of the stuff that comes internationally that isn’t express shipping comes through Canada Post.

Otherwise, it would cost a ton more to receive/ship packages.

Bulk shippers like Amazon or other online stores won’t be affected too much, but since 2/3 of packages come through Canada Post, unless you have a small express order, or an order that comes via eastern Canada, you may be out of luck.

Well that stinks big time, but good to know this stuff. I am looking to purchase a light from a fellow forum member that is Canadian gotta get it via UPS or Fedex.

Oh. If they live in Quebec, then it shouldn’t be a problem.

Otherwise…

Reminds me of the time when my in-laws flew to the US to visit us for a month. Air France baggage handlers went on strike during the time they arrived at the airport and checked in their luggage, and took off. Air France knew this was going on, but never informed the passengers, ” oh by the way, if you get on this flight, you will never see your luggage

They found out about the strike after landing in the US, and discovering their luggage never made it on the plane. They spent a lot of money purchasing new clothes, and other things they needed for a 4 week stay. They still couldn’t retrieve their luggage for a week after they got home.

Because of this, we’ve booked them on Delta when they wanted to come visit, and my family of 4 will never fly AF again either. We’ve flown 6 or 7 times to France since this happened.

Well, you’re right. I specified only Quebec now, since it’s the only one that isn’t affected.

I ordered a few items from Illumn which shipped just before canada post put out the stop shipping order and tracking shows that the parcel is still moving so it may get here.

i got emails today from two Ebay sellers i had ordered items from last week, they both cancelled my orders & refunded me, due to Canada Post’s strike and them forcing all out-of-country mail to be stopped… This is ridiculous. I read somewhere online that a growing number of small businesses who depended on outside shipments are now forming a group with a number of top lawyers to file the largest loss-of-business lawsuit in Canada history against Canada post, and its corrupt union, and Canada federal government. I hope it succeeds and makes an example of the CUPW union with the lawsuit.
