Canada Post asks foreign mail services to stop sending mail to Canada until further notice

It’s just a notice to stop ordering from international seller for now.

So, no more ordering stuff online for Canadians for now :frowning:

Is there no other way to get parcels/packages into the country? I would have thought UPS and Fedex run into canadian but not sure how that works

UPS and Fedex will not be affected of course, but most of the stuff that comes internationally that isn’t express shipping comes through Canada Post.

Otherwise, it would cost a ton more to receive/ship packages.

Bulk shippers like Amazon or other online stores won’t be affected too much, but since 2/3 of packages come through Canada Post, unless you have a small express order, or an order that comes via eastern Canada, you may be out of luck.

Well that stinks big time, but good to know this stuff. I am looking to purchase a light from a fellow forum member that is Canadian gotta get it via UPS or Fedex.

Oh. If they live in Quebec, then it shouldn’t be a problem.

Otherwise…

Reminds me of the time when my in-laws flew to the US to visit us for a month. Air France baggage handlers went on strike during the time they arrived at the airport and checked in their luggage, and took off. Air France knew this was going on, but never informed the passengers, ” oh by the way, if you get on this flight, you will never see your luggage

They found out about the strike after landing in the US, and discovering their luggage never made it on the plane. They spent a lot of money purchasing new clothes, and other things they needed for a 4 week stay. They still couldn’t retrieve their luggage for a week after they got home.

Because of this, we’ve booked them on Delta when they wanted to come visit, and my family of 4 will never fly AF again either. We’ve flown 6 or 7 times to France since this happened.

Well, you’re right. I specified only Quebec now, since it’s the only one that isn’t affected.

I ordered a few items from Illumn which shipped just before canada post put out the stop shipping order and tracking shows that the parcel is still moving so it may get here.

i got emails today from two Ebay sellers i had ordered items from last week, they both cancelled my orders & refunded me, due to Canada Post’s strike and them forcing all out-of-country mail to be stopped… This is ridiculous. I read somewhere online that a growing number of small businesses who depended on outside shipments are now forming a group with a number of top lawyers to file the largest loss-of-business lawsuit in Canada history against Canada post, and its corrupt union, and Canada federal government. I hope it succeeds and makes an example of the CUPW union with the lawsuit.

Yeah.

What Canada Post employees did is despicable. I understand their demands, but this is going too far. Rather than forcing the hand of the government(their employer), they are forcing the hand of the customers(consumers and businesses)

Unions are very important I agree, but strikes like this are not good things, not for 30 days+ across almost all provinces.

They should have done a partial strike, meaning business is slowed down, but can still continue.

My 9 orders will probably come next year.

I think we should stop discussing about this though. We are starting a circlejerk, and this can derive into madness.

If they get sued and since Canada Post is a crown corporation, guess who's going to pay if CP loses?.......... you and me the friendly tax payers. It's a never ending cycle of disgrace really.

Pretty much, that life living in Canada.

My last post about this as I love Canada and living in Canada, but would be nice to get a reasonable pm once in a while who can make good sound decisions swiftly and decisively. Not too much to ask for.

Agreed

BTW, the consequences of the strike have started.

My Miboxer C4-12 was put back on land because of the new directive from Canada Post.

My PL47 is stuck on ground.

Can’t order any components on Chinese/US sites without paying exorbitant rates for small purchases for now due to the USPS also being blocked. That means no Sofirn C8F/BLF Q8 custom MCPCB that I was going to give you guys and gals, with dual CCT LEDs for below BBL LH351Ds :frowning:

Luckily, all of my other orders did come, although they were very cheap components purchases, so they probably went by the western coast without any problem from Canada Post.

My second X80 from illumn was held for 7 days because of the strike but got a big surprise this afternoon when it was sitting in my mail box.

Heard today that Canada Post workers are back on the job.

@BlueSwordM, does the tracking number provided for your PL47 work? I received mine tracking number about 2 weeks ago and still doesn’t show up on 17track, DHL or Canada Post.

The whole point of a strike or protest is to inconvenience people. Getting shat on? Do the same to others so they notice.

Has worked for public servants/teachers, factory workers/laborers, airline workers, etc. and hopefully will continue to as in the U.S. they are all “financially underappreciated” to put it politely.
