Enogear AA Stainless Steel (AA/14500)

Taobao merchants are selling, they look the same, but the user interface is different.
.
The merchant also said: The delivery was very slow because it was sent in a cheap international parcel.
.
Unless you are willing to pay an additional postage of more than 80 yuan.
.

.
I like the Enogear AA at hand.

The website is still offline, I would like to have bought a lamp, but I’m unsure …

FWIW:

  • On Nov 12, I emailed Jackie, "It appears that Enogear.com has been down about a week. When is the site going to be back up? Thanks."
  • On Nov 15 (six days ago), Sami emailed me back, "Enogear has been building a better shop , It should be available very soon."

One has to accept that Jackie marches to the beat of his own drum.

I have an Enogear Nightwatch IRA on precarious order... Oh boy. Least the last shipping status got updated Nov 16th, so far so good. The Nightwatch triple SST-40 is an awesome built light, now running NarsilM of course. Also a FF PL47 on order with no shipping notification as of yet.

So it's:

Jacky chang - Fireflies

Jackie Zhang - Enogear (website down)

Also, Jack Zhang - FireFlies. I believe they are all the same person or company front man.

What was tiny tweek? Sorry if I missed it earlier.

Shame to hear the problems with the site, communication and shipping. They were nice lights while it lasted.

Hope everyone gets his light or money back somehow.

Send a PM to Fireflies account on BLF. The guy sometimes don’t(forget?) to respond or takes weeks to respond. It took several months to get my replacement which I thought was hopeless but all of a sudden I received the replacement that came with freebies of greater value than the product I originally bought

Sorry I’m a bit late, but on receiving my light I un-subscribed from this thread. Little tweaks, lets see:

- this is a two part light, so no head part (1), a body/tube part (2) and a tailcombo part (3).
The switch/tailspring is put in the back of the body/tail part, with a retaining ring on the outside to fasten it.
It’s a firm tailspring. When the retaining ring gets loose, it’s hardly noticable. Until the switch looses contact.
I found out that the two lanyard holes in the tail are fully “open” when the retaining ring is properly tightened.
So I use a splitring through both holes as locking device. It stick out sideways, but it still permits a tailstand.

- The body/tail part and the head part are not directly connected. Both are screwed onto the pill.
It’s a bit of a lottery what part comes loose from the pill first, when you want to put in a fresh battery.
To solve that question I put a tiny drop of glue on the threads that connect the head to the pill.
Now the body comes off quite easy, and the head a bit less easy.

- When the head came off, a TIR-lens and a centering ring fell in my lap, and a PCB/LED dangled “in the air”.
As the PCB is not fixaded onto the pill, putting things back on top of each other is a bit of a circus act.
So I put a tiny drop of glue on the PCB, to fix the centering ring.

I am convinced assembling these parts without proper aligning caused damage to the LED, as it was DOA.
BTW, when you are looking for a new LED, an XP-G3 and a TIR combined generate a tint that ain’t half bad.

My light arrived (the second one they send). Its a nice light! Build like a tank and very heavy for its size. I will have to search for a new driver (i do not like visible PWM even if its not as bad as some other lights i bought). And i will have to get a new led. I do not like leds with a shift into the green side and the one i got is def greenish.
But from the build side i have to say that i like it a lot!

Enogear AA SS is known to be rosy. Im guessing it’s a new batch. Tbats unfortunate

It is def on the warmer side maybe even a bit rosy. But my Skin and the white wall get a unhealthy greenish look. Not as bad as some other leds but it is enough (would be interesting to see a color analysis of this led!). And because we have a lot of nice leds out there to choose from, i will add one for the light next time i order parts. Not sure about the driver. To be able to use AA and 14500 would be nice. But if i can not get both i am ok with 14500 only!
But i am real happy that the light arrived without damage. It was send only in a plastic bag without a lot of padding. Luckily the light is build like a tank and not prone for dents!

I’m pretty sure the emitter in yours is not like the previous ones. I received two Enogear AA SS over several months and they had the exact same tint and they are a bit rosier than even the 219B 4000k 9080, E21A, and my Cree 5A/5D tint flashlights. The Enogear SS 14500 rechargeable version used a different batch of emitters and was much less rosy.

yup that could be it. I have five 219B 4000K 9080 and the SS14500 is less rosy for sure! But that is no problem at all! Enough to choose out there. The driver is a bigger problem.
I hope i can find something!

Henk4U2, thanks for taking the time to reply and especially in such detail. Quite a bit to look out for when/if light arrives. Again, thanks for sharing your experience. Cheers!

I see. So you got the 14500 SS usb recharge version not the original AA version that everyone has. Yeah unfortunately they didn’t use the same emitter as the SS AA version. I was disappointed too but then I can’t complain because Jack sent that one to me as a freebie because it took him almost 4 months to send me a replacement for my AA version that got a burnt driver from using 14500. The tint on the AA version is one of the best non HI CRI emitter I’ve seen.

My shipment has been stuck in Los Angeles since 11-18. Hopefully it will start moving soon. Long wait since my original order on 9-1, but I’m still hopeful.

In terms of AA stainless steel, the Enogear AA SS is indeed a good flashlight.

The feel and material of the appearance from the build side you have to say that you like it a lot .

I received my Nightwatch IRA from enogear yesterday - site is till down though. The IRA is one big chunk of alum with also a nice chunk of copper press fit, acting as a thick shelf for the MCPCB, which is also copper, anchored with 2 screws. It looks like a modder drilled out the shelf, cut a piece off of copper bar stock, and press fit it in there nicely.

Yep I bought that from them too. That host is impressive. What are you planning to use it for?

From all the 26650 host I’ve seen, this Nightwatch IRA and the Jaxman X1S is the best from a thermal performance standpoint. Should be able to sustain 2k+ lumens easily with an XHP70.2 P2 bin
